smelly sca

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I agree it sounds like you definitely need to wash more often. But the other thing you might want to investigate is that people that eat a lot of dairy can have a dairy like scent to their skin/oils (sebum). I remember reading ages ago about non dairy cultures being able to smell dairy on westerners. I notice it if I drink a lot of milk/eat lots of cheese. It's not enough anyone else would notice, but I can tell. :P

24 days and still in love :)

Thanks :) good to know if anyone asks me. My friend and I are the only dreadheads I know around here. Well actually I met a young guy who was seeing a loctician who services mostly afroamericans here, and his very straight caucasion hair was getting twisted every couple weeks and he said he'd spent a ton of cash. I gave him my number so I could point him to some better info. But he never contacted me. Bummer for him. The other people I know who've had them in the past used wax, and one used a needle felting needle. O_oOk you have 20 awesome sized dreads. Everyone keeps saying on this site to make (if you're gonna tnr) the sections about the size of a nickel. Well I have more than a couple that have bigger sections than a nickel, and none smaller than a nickel but I have 43 dreads. What is your section size?

How did you make your extensions? I've seen a few videos. I love the thickness of yours.

They are sweet. You said awhile ago that you'd put in extensions. Did you use human hair? Are the joins staying nice? :)

Baba that's so bizarre :-/

Panda, you didn't say in your original question that you had extensions and that's where they broke. That makes sense, it wouldn't even really be crochet damage if it's a join. Theoretically anyway. Anyhoooo... Idk much about vegetable dyes. If they use peroxide then they are damaging. But maybe less so. I'd have to do some research. I like the look of your hair color in your ginger bun picture :)

Bleaching is wicked destructive to the hair structure. So is semiperm/demiperm/perm hair color. All to lesser degrees. Natural henna is the only color you can do that is actually good for the hair. Panterra talks about protein hair reconstructor somewhere. Go to her wall and you'll probably find this comments fairly easily. You can never fully reconstruct bleach damaged hair you can only support it. I'd do that and read up on henna. :) www.mehandi.com And remember that when your hair is wet it is at it's most vulnerable time. Especially bleached hair. Be very gentle with it.

Drying your hair purposely for dreads, long term effects...

Dreading Methods

By that definition I would think if you washed using anything manmade that they'd no longer be natural. Actually separating as well. That's manipulation too. Sorry. Gah I woke up feeling like a devils advocate today. :P

would you cut your dreads for a million dollars? (very serious and real question)

General Talk

I wouldn't worry about it. They're not forcing you to accept it. It's pretty simple. It's not a free will gift. They want to take care of you as if you were a minor (before you were in charge of your life). You know, back when there were conditions lol. So either accept that you have conditional wealth and the freedom that comes with not having to work but your "work" will be their conditions. Or don't. Say no, live your life with your own conditions. Because face it, you make your own conditions, they just are different than your folks. I wouldn't under any circumstances accept the money if you're gonna resent the "job requirements" that go with it. :)

That seems like apples and oranges eagle. Yukon doesn't stand in a position to take money from people by false advertising or by causing harm.
