All my awful dandruff has GONE!!!

Dread Maintenance

Wow thank you so much for the lovely compliment ; ) Do persist with the washing as it will work out in the end, but I'm not sure the jojoba is safe for baby dreads - mine are 5 months now - I've not had any problems but I wouldn't want to advise others in case it does loosen knots and soften too much.

I also spray my scalp with a water spray with a few drops of the same oils I use in the wash, as it stopped the terrible itching, and reduced the dandruff.

one love xxx

Thank you for sharing this, Rachel!! I came across your photos last week and I just LOVE your dreads, your curls are amazing! We have almost the same hairtype, although mine seems like it may be a bit more coarse. I too have been dealing with dandruff and my washes don't go exactly as planned or as described by most. Glad to see some answers from someone that I can relate to on the curly level :) Keep em coming because I'm still in the baby phase at just a few weeks and this is really helpful!

All my awful dandruff has GONE!!!

Dread Maintenance

I hope you find something that works for you soon, yeah maybe avoid trying the jojoba until they are more mature, but washing often is good and will help the dreading process, I wash at least twice a week! x

Oh congrats! That must feel so amazing!!! I have been dealing with horrible dandruff for years now. :/ I hope I find a routine soon that works for me too.. I am afraid to try jojoba on my head though since I just started dreading my hair again... I have never been good about washing my hair often. I am washing once a week right now. How often is safe forabout 2 weeknew dreads?

I have tried the BS/ACV and the new dreadlock shampoos and the essential oils but I haven't found the solution yet.. I do know I am SO sick of it though. :( I wouldn't leave the house without a hat on almost everyday for at least the past 2 maybe 3 years. :( My hair is dark so it shows up even worse..

All my awful dandruff has GONE!!!

Dread Maintenance

I am soooooooooo happy! For the last few weeks I have changed my wash routine slightly and all my dandruff has gone!!!

The difference seems to be Peppermint oil and Jojoba oil:

SE told me to try the peppermint oil, and the Jojoba was half price on offer so i just happened to try it.

I wash twice a week using the baking soda soak and acv rinse, and I add these essential oils to both: 20 drops of rosemary, 20 drops of lavender, 5 drops of tea tree and now 5 drops of peppermint.

Then after I have rinsed everything out I have been applying a few drops of jojoba oil in the partings where you can see my scalp, using my fingertips, and being careful not to use too much. The first time I tried it I did another rinse, but since then i've not rinsed the jojoba out and just let my hair dry, and both ways seem fine.

All the dandruff is gone! I did another wash minus the jojoba and had mild dandruff afterwards, so went back to applying it and it's gone again.

I've not noticed any problems with my dreads so far (they don't seem oily or too soft and conditioned) but that may be because of my hair type, and I'm not sure if people with different hair might find applying the jojoba every wash too much and it might undo baby dreads etc, but I wanted to share the fact that after 5 months of awful dandruff mine is GONE!! Lint & stuff getting stuck in baby dreads

Dread Maintenance

I ended up examining every single dread and found that LOADS were fully locked around bits of fluff and crap, which took ages to remove, but I would rather have loose ends than UNKNOWN STUFF imbedded in my hair! xxx

Lint & stuff getting stuck in baby dreads

Dread Maintenance

Sadly I cant, I've got my hands full with 2 jobs, plus i'm self employed, i'm a single mum and I have a dog - I barely get time to wash my own dreads!

Lint & stuff getting stuck in baby dreads

Dread Maintenance

Yeah i'm worried that if anything other than my hair gets knotted in that it will hold dirt, plus i don't think it's all natural materials, if you know it's pure wool or cotton thats a bit different.

I seriously want to try the new shampoo but i'm in the uk and the shipping costs are prohibitive - we need a uk distributor!

ive had my dreads 21 almost 22 years they drag on the ground i had tons of lint that became pretty visible at 1st i though t of it as just adding color so didnt bother with it

i tried picking it out when it got bad but it tore the hair up too much so i dyed it with tea or cofee to hide it that works well except the baking soda stripped the color too fast

i switched to the www.dreadlockshampoo.com bar and just the other day i scrubbed the whole length of my dreads with it and it removed almost every bu=it even tho it was deep seeted in the for many years

id try that 1st then try the tea to dye it

try to avouid sweatters towels pillowcases that leave lint

and if u cant a satin wrap will prevent u from getting any

i dont mind some as long as its not like the ends are white and covered

it was getting bad so i did something about it i was going to use the tea after scrubbing but was blown away by how well the dreadlockshampoo removed it all pretty much

i found out also most of it came from one particular floor which wasnt always the cleanest so now when i go in thatr room i wear my tam

Lint & stuff getting stuck in baby dreads

Dread Maintenance

Hmmmm, I keep finding knotty ends that on closer inspection are actually knots formed around bits of fluff and lint. i have had to remove the end knots of a few dreads as the bits of crap could not be teased out with tweezers. Yick!

I am a very hygienic person and keep my dreads super clean so I don't understand why, but it does all seem to look like it comes from one particular wooly jumper...

I saw someone with dreads the other day and they had visible balls of fluff fully imbedded in the ends of their locs, which was gross.

But not all of my dreads are long enough for me to look at the ends closely, so what about them?! I'm guessing mature dreads don't get stuff stuck in them because they are tight?

still dont know if i should wash

Dread Maintenance

everytime I wash my locks they get tighter and knottier, that's what makes my hair dread. I use the BS & ACV with essential oils, twice a week. Honestly it's the washing and drying that makes them dread up. Plus they will get nasty if you don't wash -PLEASE WASH!

Head & Shoulders anti-dandruff shampoo is NOT SAFE for baby dreads!

Dread Maintenance

I use 20 drops of rosemary, 20 drops of lavender and 5 drops of tea tree in with the BS wash and the same again in the AC rinse, and I have noticed much less dandruff than at 2 months, but if I go to day 4 without a wash it gets bad again. I knew I wouldn't be able to wash it for 5 days so I was worried and tried the evilness.

I'm going to get some peppermint oil tomorrow, how many drops should i add of that to what I'm using already?

Many thanks x
