Hair Hurts?

General Questions

I guess maybe hurting isn't the right term just irritated. Feels like my hair has been in one place too long. Is that making sense haha. They are separated, I have some thick and some thin. I have a wee bit of dandruff but its not a "problem" per say.

Hair Hurts?

General Questions

So I am about 4 months into my dread journey and often I get the feeling of my "hair hurting" like when you have your hair up too long. I hardly ever wear my dreads up in a hair band. Is this the dreads tightening back against my scalp?

Dealing with Criticism

General Questions

My friends love my dreads! My one friend makes me say "for the Horde" all the time as a joke that I look like an orc from World of Warcraft since I have the septum piercing too lol which is his way of complimenting them. That stuff I love and can laugh at but the "when are you cutting those things out...." not so much...

Dealing with Criticism

General Questions

Thank you guys this helped a lot Happy

Yea I think with most people they expect dreads to look "perfect" as in very mature and long right away but since I am in the messy 3 month stage they aren't as "pretty" (even though I think they are Wink ).

I was just feeling really down on myself and this helped a lot! <3

Straight hair in dreams.....nightmare!

General Talk

Yes!!! I have those dreams a lot! I am chocking it up to my dreads being so young so I still remember what it is like to have "normal hair." I'm hoping they go away with time because they are awful!

Dealing with Criticism

General Questions

How do you all deal with criticism from family and friends about your dreads? Comments from people? etc etc....

Over the holidays I got a lot of mixed emotions about my dreads. Some thought they were cool/pretty. Most had all kinds of questions and wanted to know more. Then the rest hated them. For example my step mom didn't talk to me all day and when she did she said "so when are you going to be done with your dreads?" I said "like matured or like cut them off?" she said "cutting them off...."

Just when I was starting to feel really good about my dreads then all this came out and as I am still feeling good about them I am trying to move past the criticism.

Totally Jumping Into This

Introduce Yourself

I have wanted dreadlocks my whole life and I was always too much of a chicken to get them but now that I am nearing 30 it's time to do me. For reals. I am so tired of coloring my hair, so tired of worrying how it looks, so tired of products, blow dryers, curling irons, straighteners ultimately to feel frustrated because my hair either gets too oily, won't hold a curl, or a straight and frizzes I am just so over it. So here I am Day 3 of not brushing or conditioning my hair. Frustrated already but not by the progress/process or anything more by finding the right shampoo. But I am excited because I know its all part of the process.

Shampoo

Dread Products

Day 3 of Natural Dreads. My hair is knotting more but my hair feels very oily and soft. I have been having shampoo issues. At first I was going to use Dr. Bronners but we have hard water so it made my hair feel like I didn't wash it at all. So I bought this Jamaican Castor Oil soap and mistook castor for castile.... felt great after wash but feels too soft. I woke up with an oily head this morning so I mixed some baking soda, ACV, tea tree oil, lemon oil and lemon juice together and washed my hair with that. It feels better but now that it's ending the day it feels oily again.... I ordered some from  dreadshampoo.com per the advice on this site. Will this help my naturally oily hair dread easier?
