Safest way to congo?

Dreading Methods

way to be scientific about it, SE Happy

thank you again for all you've done for me and all the people who have healthy happy dreads thanks to your knowledge! If it weren't for you, I'd probably be back combing my dreads with elmers glue or worse, wax, right about now xD

Does strong Wind help or hinder locking?

Dreading Methods

I did a little experiment with this one day that might answer this question.

I had just taken a shower and was late for class, so I was driving to school with my hair dripping wet and decided to stick my head out the window, thinking it would help my hair knot and lock up more since I was still only a couple month into free forming.

It more undid a lot of the progress I had then helped. I mean, I don't know what I really expected stuck in my head out the window at 55 miles per hour...I showed up to class lookin like I just survived a tornado and with the biggest cheesing smile on my face because of how amusing I found the whole experience xD

now, If I crack both the front driver window and the rear passenger window (no more then 1/2 of the way open) it seems to act as a natural blow dryer and seems to help a tiny bit with blowing little hairs away from my face, but I can't say it did anything overly noticeable to help them dread faster.

But, also didn't hurt! As long as my head wasn't out the window like a dog in August. Like I said, about the same effect as if you blow dried only from the top side.

Peace and love!

Safest way to congo?

Dreading Methods

Yeah I could see where they could definitely be problematic to clean and maintain if you let them get to the David Hines level haha, he'll always be an inspiration to dreadies everywhere.

How should I apply that 1 inch rule to the 3 flat dreads I have going on the back of my head, though? should I base it on the thickness of the dread rather then the width? (If that makes sense)

Safest way to congo?

Dreading Methods

Peace and love,

So, I've always loved the idea of dreads as "natural roots" put forth by many spiritual dreadies, and i love the individuality and vibration of dreads that were allowed to congo as they please. They act as powerful symbols of self love as a child of creation and the strength of your roots, and for some reason they have always resonated with me. I find huge congo'd dreads (such as bob marley's or david hinds of steel pulse, pictures attached) to be Awe-inspiring and gorgeous, and have pretty much already decided that i'd like to let my dreads unify as much as possible without causing damage.

Which brings me to my question: What is the healthiest and safest way to congo dreads? my dreads are still forming, ive been letting them congo as they  form and rarely separate, but since i dont plan on ever cutting my dreads, i want to make sure I wont cause scalp damage from excessive weight down the line. should i let them form first and mature as "average sized", and then let them congo later on to slowly test their weight?

also, do free formed dreads thicken naturally down the road even without being congo'd? my "babies" are roughly the size of what i would say is your typical loctician dreads, but some feel much denser then those i've felt on other dreadies.

Any info would be helpful!  Make a great day, fellow souls (:

Namaste

~ Bhagavad Gita -

dready interests

Greetings!

I had a copy of the Bhagavad Gita gifted to me by a dear friend, and I found the particular translation I had wonderful. I can tell you the translation when I get home, but to be quite honest, my favorite translation may not speak to you like it did to me. I think whatever text speaks to you and finds its way into your possession, is the one you are meant to read.

Trust yourself! I'm sure you will bond with whatever translation you get (:

Blessing and love, my friend!

new dread locking gel from dreadlockshampoo.com

Dread Products

Yeah, I'll probably just do that, I'm always super apprehensive of any kind of hair product, even though I trust Vicki with my life. Is the sea salt spray roughly the same as the sea salt and water mixture I've seen recipes for on here? Or is there something else in it that makes it more ideal for leave in scenarios?

Dread Products

Greetings, all!

I'm only 6 months in and a lot of my hair seems to be dreading itself just fine, but absolutely nothing is happening with my bangs and the first 3 inches of my hairline from my face back. this area sees a lot of attention from my hands as i try to keep it out of my eyes, so idk if its ever going to dread. should i give this a try or just wait it out?

im getting a bit tired of my undreaded bangs getting stuck in my glasses xD

a question for hippies..and spiritual travelers.. this title sounds so lame but i dunno what to write here lol

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

Greetings from the US!(:

My personal advice, is that the "hippy wanderer lifestyle" by definitions is you following your own path. I, personally, awoke to the realization that my duty in life is to be a shamanic healer, herbalist, and energy worker, and to live in balance with this earth we live on and as far from the "system" as possible.

By following my heart, talking to those around me, and trusting the world would put what was needed in front of me, I am now going to college to become a chiropractor and learning the rest through other routes, something i never thought would happen. i typically dislike institutions, but since i am working towards a way of solidifying my "weird hippy" lifestyle in something western, i will be able to pay off whatever is needed to please the system while living outside of it. I plan to build a tiny house community out where i live, start growing whatever i need to survive, and working towards "Off grid" living that allows me to be free of most financial responsibilities so i can heal for the sake of healing, not for profit.

My point is, my journey wont work for everyone. heck, it wont work for most people, and it rightly shouldn't! its my path to walk, and your path to walk is yours, just walk it with an open heart and approach everything with an open mind, and you will be surprised where you end up (: i have friends who have stranded themselves in other countries for years at a time, and by simply trusting "it is what it is" and realizing that home is a place in your heart, they made their way back in one piece.sometimes you have to work for the things you need, sometimes it comes from the generosity of others, and sometimes it comes from mother earth, but the whole point of the "wandering" is trusting the journey because you know its your journey, and you only get to take it once.

I hope this helped, blessings to you on all your future endeavors! may every sunrise bring you hope, and may every sunset bring you peace (:

Namaste
