Introduce Yourself

Yes, thank you. I think it has actually grown a couple of inches it's just that it curls up and tightens up and the overall length looks visually similar. It's a lot more straggly and I have the "feel" of hippie hair for sure. If I leave the front hanging down, it does look dread-ish, helped by the fact that I twisted a couple of chunks in the back. There are several grey strands right in the front that I am trying to make peace with.

I am feeling better and better about my decision to go freeform. The timing coincides with all sorts of other changes in my life as I make new connections and deepen my spiritual awareness. :)))

I realized I hadn't updated this thread even though I've posted pics elsewhere.

Sometimes the pictures don't show how strandy and clumpy my hair is. It looks clumpy, just not like separated locks yet.

3 months in and looking crazy!

Introduce Yourself

image.jpg Wow, that is awesome. I feel the same most days, here are my pics (about 4 1/2 mos)

i have a couple of twisties that I just leave alone. I guess my hair has a mind of its own and that's ok. 😑

My hair is doing the same as yours... It will tangle a little on its own but I also can't help twisting the pieces a little. And in the back it feels like big clumps with no rhyme or reason that maybe I should pull apart. The top and front just won't do anything other than sit there. No clumps. Kind of frustrating and I can't believe my family isn't making more comments about my strange clumpy unkempt hair. :)

Some more technical questions about washing

Dread Maintenance

I almost feel like my hair is too clean to form locks, is that possible?? When I touch it, it feels silky and smooth, not dry enough to tangle at all unless I fuzz it up or sort of twist it. It's so hard to figure out how these little tiny sections would turn into fuzzy locks??

Starting out?

Introduce Yourself

Mine is about the same as yours but not as long. I posted on my thread that I get frustrated with the clump/strands that don't look too great at all. Here are a couple of pics.

p.s yes I'm a girl, lol

Here's a pic that I like cause I look like a weird hippie ... I had to blow dry a little because I was getting ready for bed. This is basically what I've got after three months of not combing or managing hair at all. I do tend to twist out of anxiety, I hope that isn't counter-productive.

9 months neglect video

General Talk

Looks good! I'm only about 3 months in and I have the worst looking hair clump strands. I honestly wonder if I should just rough it all up and let some of it get tangled some other way. It isn't really long enough to look like dreads, so it's just clumpy strips for me right now. Hope to look like yours in another few months ??

I appreciate this discussion. It seems like a small thing but you do feel like you are rubbing away progress if you wash too vigorously. I have sort of resigned myself that I might be stepping backwards a bit with my washing, but it's better than having an itchy, dandruff-y head and being uncomfortable.

i also find the shampoo doesn't foam up too much but my head always feels better after I wash. My hair is still short so really only the longer part in the back is clumping. It will take a long time. Your length looks good and I'm sure it is looking better than you realize.

i always rinse pretty normally under the shower head, just don't rub it. I plug my nose and ears (haha) and just dunk my head under the medium pressure water. I dont use a towel, well, I do squeeze a bit and air dry.
