Question On Congo Separation

Dread Maintenance

☮ soaring eagle ॐ:

they look great though if that 1 bothers you that much, comb it out

let it start over

what are you washing with and how often..hot or cold water

Well I guess I'll just leave it be as I'm really way too lazy/have tons of other work and don't want to deal with combing out because I know that takes quite some work and patience. I'm currently washing with Dollylocks but I don't like that shampoo very much, that's why I ordered from dreadlocks site again recently. I only have one wash worth of Dollylocks left and after that I'm switching back to Vicki's shampoo. I'm usually washing with lukewarm water, not hot nor cold.

Based on their current phase, would you advise me to start using bars already? I'm still only scraping the scalp with my fingernails, I'm wondering if I could start shampooing whole locks now, some of them feel pretty mature already.

Dollylocks shampoo bar

Dread Maintenance

☮ soaring eagle ॐ:

are you ordering bar or liquid are you washing with hot or cold water

Well I'm ordering liquid because a lot of my hair is still undreaded, as for water temperature I'm usually washing with something in between, lukewarm water I'd say.

Strange 'residue' on my scalp

Dread Maintenance

☮ soaring eagle ॐ:

what are you washing with now and how often

Well right now I'm using Dollylocks liquid shampoo, which I strongly suspect doesn't work in hard water. I'm washing once a week but sometimes even less because I'm kinda lazy washer.

Dollylocks shampoo bar

Dread Maintenance

Ok I have to confirm that dollylocks liquid shampoo does not for me at all (very hard water). I've ordered it because I'm from Europe and shipping costs for dreadlockshampoo.com are skyhigh, way higher than the price of a product itself, which is a bargain compared to combined shipping + customs clearance costs. But I guess I have no real alternative, so I've recently ordered another shipment of your shampoo again. It is the only shampoo so far that left me zero to minimal residue, everything else just doesn't work.
I have to say though that dollylocks actually made dreading faster for me, way faster. But at what cost? I even got a feeling that dreading might be a bit artificial with dollylocks, I don't know exactly how but it is indeed very fast after washing. But it leaves residue in hard water, I just hope this won't come back to bite me, but I've used an entire packaging of dollylocks and each time I wash my hair, I have to rinse like crazy, and it still leaves residue. I get some strange white spots in my hair, and my hair doesn't even feel all that clean and light after washing. In contrary, it feels a bit heavy. I still would say that dollylocks is horrible and the worst thing you could be using, I guess dreads.uk is way worse. At least dollylocks claims to be organic and telling from ingredients it's way better than dreads.uk, which is toxic crap for example. I guess dollylocks was just the best option that I could get shipped from Europe, but even that doesn't work sadly.
No matter what some of you claim, even having natural dreads can be an expensive sport, especially if not from USA, the costs of the right shampoo + water bill will go way up. I guess the only compensation is no money lost on barbers and hair salons.
Sadly I have to confirm that nothing except the dreadlockssite shampoo has been even remotely working for me thus far. And even that shampoo doesn't help me with my big dandruff problem that I've had as long as I can remember (even before dreads). It's just gotten worse now, especially since using dollylocks. At least my shipment of the best shampoo is on the way now, it will take forever to arrive though.

Question On Congo Separation

Dread Maintenance

Ok so I have the same problem. I'm pretty consistent with separating because I really dislike big congos, I want my dreads to be as thin as possible. So I have no idea how only one of them managed to get completely out of hand, but I guess I'm way past the point of no return now. As mentioned, I only got one big congo dread at the back of my head, I'll include a photo however it's pretty bad quality and I haven't been able to take a better one. So I got this huge thick dread which is basically like a beaver tail and I hate it. When I lay down on a pillow and it gets in a certain position I can feel it pressing against my skull. It's very annoying.

I wish I could just cut it in half or something, but I know that's a no-go from watching Lazydreads did something similar in one of his videos.

I also included another pic of my dreads after something like a year and a half (it will be 2 years in august). They're finally coming along nicely, it's just that I have to wear them up while working and I work all the time, so that must be delaying the process a whole lot. I don't have any other option currently so that just what I have to live with.

I also have a ton of problems with dandruff but I guess that's also very hard to fix easily.

Strange 'residue' on my scalp

Dread Maintenance

I have exactly the same problem. I think it's just a whole lot of dandruff. I've had this problem for a very long time, just since having dreads those flakes don't have much space to move, so they tend to stick very close to the scalp. When I scratch my head near the scalp I just get tons of that white stuff under my fingernails.

I doubt there's much that can be done here, I also got a lot of dandruff even in my beard.

I guess the only solution would be a great anti-dandruff product which would also be appropriate for dreads, but I haven't been able to find anything like that yet. :(

☮ soaring eagle ॐ:
dollylocks i think sells wax? but let me tell you about dreadsuk
dreadssuk's owner is the biggest scumbag in the dread workd, worse then jonny clean even...by far
ok so i'll go into full details on this dreadsuk (read it all it gets worse and worse)
i 1st heard of him when he posts a video challenging me to a debate on crochet. he claimed that lazydreads was going to be involved too..i wholeheasrtil;y agreed to it  ((i was very sick for 2 weeks however) when i was better i cv\ould not get him to commit to a date yet he kept posting that i was chickening out and kept saying lazydreads was all in
i later talked to lazydreads (who i definitely respect) he told me that he wanted nothing to do with him cause he tried forcing him to shut down his site and turn over all content when lazy refused he said hed just copy all his material and use it anyway
he then spent months harassing him and attacking his character, till lazy had to get legal help
next he was spasmming the hell out of my groups on fb ..i mean overwhelming spam, 4 posts pushing his shampoo for every 1 legit post in very big busy groups (he does that still in other groups)
i blocked him cause we have a zero spam policy,, oh that is when the shit hit the fan
1st let me explain my living situation i live with my sis bro in law and nephews ..im a quadriplegic in a wheelchair ..the basement i have never been in but its my neophews playroom
now dreadsuk creep (Elijah locke) flooded the web not just fb but other sites with claims that i kidnapped a 14 year old and had her captive in the basement
he had others from his site visciously spam then when they were blocked they did the same.. my own brother got a message from 1 of them claiming i kidnapped her sister!!!!
i looked into defamation and other legal hel;p and was told just to clean up the mess he caused would cost me 50,000 dollars..just to have the lies removed let alone legal fees to sue him or get a cease and desist order
now on his site before it became just an ad the forums were the front page, with 90% of posts being about sex not dreads
one of the sites he posted lies on (thast comes up 1st when you google my name) had real copmplaints about him from his femasle members he would push them for naked photos then try to get them to join him in a poly relationship living on a bus, if they requested he remove the photos hed ban them and refuse to remove them
now his shampopos are toxic chemical crap but even if they were the best in the world this guys toxicv poision and he will go all out to destroy you for interfering with his profits
while dreadlockshampoo is hand made and she built up her business from scratch his are factory produced he gotr a massive grant 'princess grant" to statty his business so it cost him nothing to open a factory
hes extremely aggressive in his constant spamming ..and abbsollutely viscouse if you ever try to stop the spam

hes evil..pure scum..i have had to file multipole police reports but were no help
i really feel bad for anyone who gets sucked into his site
oh most posts on dreads are click bate 'worlds ugliest dreads' "nastiest dreads"
very little in thre way of advice except go to this locticiuan or that loctician (he encourages them to join use his proiducts and in exchange get recommendations)
in fact ui think 'get professional help' is the limit of his ability to advise..
his forums not for helping but hurting, poking fun at others, or trying to destroy reputsations

That sounds so horrible I even find it hard to believe that someone could truly be such a scumbag of a person. I'm not saying that I don't believe you though, I've already ordered a bottle of their shampoo and if what you're saying is indeed true I already feel bad about ordering it.
Could you please provide me with some links to all that drama? I find it rather fascinating and I'd like to look up into it a bit more if possible. We definitely need to stand up against such atrocius bussines practices and behaviour in general/do everything in our power as a community to prevent it.

General Questions

I will just use this topic for a couple of shampoo questions. So what do you think about Dollylocks and Dreads.uk shampoo? I was using Vicki's liquid shampoos and I'm currently at the last bottle. I'm satisfied but can't order more due to high shipping/customs cost to EU, so I'm searching for a good alternative.

One year + questions

Dread Maintenance

☮ soaring eagle ॐ:

Maybe and perhaps also that I wear it up sometimes. Not a whole lot but yes sometimes I have to tie it when working or working out etc.

One year + questions

Dread Maintenance

Thanks to both! Well I'm still using liquid shampoo and I think I plan on using it for another year or so, at least untill my hair is mostly dreaded. I don't think swithing to bars sooner would be a good idea. I also think everything is fine, it just takes a very long time and of course I wasn't used to that before with "generic" hairstyles. You just went to the salon and "bam" you had a hairstyle you wanted in half an hour. But this is something entirely different, I understand it and I'm fine with it. I won't give up, if I managed to put up with my crazy hair for a year, I'll manage another year too.

I'm not towel drying, I'm only using fingertips on my scalp as suggested, however I'm working it into the whole area of the scalp, not just the top of my head. Otherwise my hair would probably remain a bit dirty after washing. I'm using a hair dryer for quite some time after washing because I can't just make a whole appartment wet waiting for my hair to dry all on itself.

About sea salt spray, I have it but I stopped using it because I haven't really noticed much difference and I find it kinda redundant. But perhaps I'll start using it again the same day or a couple hours before washing. I wash once a week and I think that's just ideal. Before I used to wash twice a week but that seemed to make my hair a bit more oily, even tho I don't think that I have a very oily hair or more than usual.
