my hair fully undreaded in the front the first week i backcombed so i left it alone it took almost a year before it started knotting. most peoples hair knots quicker im just a rare case =/

I was in the same boat hair fell out after back combing. So I left it alone and thought it would never dread up. Took 1 year before it started knotting. So yes time is key. Glad your hair has sorted itself out.

So when u let them congo did they join together or just the new growth? Are they like little dreaded octopuses or 1 solid dread.

The dread in pic is a year and a few months old it's 1 of my first natural dreads it's about the size of a q-tip about 90% of my neglect dreads are forming this small and won't congo.. is it just me or will having a majority of dreads this size and about 17 thicker ones look weird. I'm trying to embrace that this is just how my hair dreads. But I'm having a case of "the grass is greener on the other side" with seeing thicker dreads on my head.

The best saying I was told about dreading is " the easiest way to dread is to let go, the hardest part of dreading is letting go "

My hair was 12" when I started. All my back combed dreads in the front fell out. So I went neglect. I'm a year and 1 month in and it just started dreading.

I'm going to say it doesn't help. I have tried one on they tend to compress the hair on the scalp restricting movement and the back part holds all your hair in one spot without much movement making it try to all knot together rather then sections.

Is this normal?

This is not my picture just similar to what my wife's roots are like. They can be separated by pulling apart but there so matted you can't separate from the root up.

got a sample from vicki of charcoal detox shampoo its the only shampoo that actually keeps my hair dry but not brittle, it removes all oil and helps knotting! here is a pic of my hair currently. Took a year to start seeing progress but its getting better everyday now!

Yes try to embrace the changes. Control is something humans try to do so much. The less we try to control the less stressful it is. You'll have your up and down days. But in the end it will workout.
