Something for myself

Introduce Yourself

Thank you Lauren! I am almost at 2 weeks and my hair has changed so much it's crazy. I was finally able to break my habits of constantly touching my hair and wearing a hat all the time and that has helped me avoid greasy looking flat hair. I don't get .much support so it is great to have a site full of positive and encouraging members. God bless

Something for myself

Introduce Yourself

Hello everyone! So I have finally started my dreadlock journey and so far I am doing well, though I have foundit is hard toleave the hair alonelol. Really this journey started back in June of 2013 when I got my last haircut and from then on vowed to put the scissors and clippers down. Now this wasn't the first time I had made that decision, but it is the first time I was finally able to see it through. I had made several attempts since getting out of the military to grow my hair out, but the timing just wasn't right and the whole clean cut appearance that was part of my life for 8 years was so hard to break. I can remember standing in front of the mirror with six months of hair growthscissors in hand fighting with myself about whether or not to cut my hair. I would always give in and then feel miserable after hacking all of my progress off. My problem was that while I knew that I wanted long hair and was always fascinated by dreadlocks, I was allowing everyone else's thoughts and opinions sway my own thinking. So much changed for me after turning 30. Literally my whole outlook on life and attitude towards it. I feel more spiritually alive than I ever have and spend much of my alone time reflecting on my life the good and the bad and trying to learn and grow from it. All that being said I am now on my journey and this time I will remember that this is for my own happiness and growth, not anyone else's. One more thing before I go...I will include some pics of my progress so far and Iam hoping to get some feedback from the site. I have a concern as my hair has become thin towards the back and I'm wondering if I will have problems moving forward. The day 3 pic isn't the best since I had worn a beanie hat the previous day all day long and my hair was looking quite flat and oily (I won't be making that mistake again) but you can see the thin spot on my scalp. I am hoping that this is from abuse (overwashing, aggressive combing/brushing, shampoos with residues, etc.) and that now through better maintenance practices and a healthier diet that those areas will fill in a little better. I have started to use the just 4 locks liquid shampoo and the pink himalayan sea salt spray and love both of them and as you will see in the pics it really made a difference in my hair (at least I think so). My fear is that once they start to lock really well my scalp will be showing alot in those areas. Any feedback or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Peace to you all and thanks in advance.
