Help mold?

Help! Save My Dreads

Thank you for the follow up.
I have tried the squeezing, the rot knot before shampooing, and vice versa. But now I will try leaving in the rot knot that i have left for longer, at least 10 minutes as you said.
The sun, unfortunately isn't a constant everyday option for drying, but i have started using a powerful fan, spreading them out, angling the fan, etc.

Are there any alternatives that you know of for when i run out of rot knot (as i have no income yet, but i do have acv, white vinegar, tea tree and peppermint oil, and two shampoo bars to use)?

Also, if acv or white vinegar are past their expiration date, should i discontinue use? Or is that just a loose guideline?

One site said soak them in grapefruit seed extract, white vinegar, and tea tree oil, I believe.

@peace shalom, no i haven't used any type of wax or anything in the near 4 years that I've been free forming, but my states water is apparently extremely hard, and my shared shower is overrun with mold and rust despite everything i do to clean it. While washing outside with buckets is problematic.

Help mold?

Help! Save My Dreads

Thank you dread stpauli and peace shalom for the input and assistance. It helps to know that people are here willing to provide aid. I am grateful.

A few days ago, I tried my normal shampoo washing (dreadlockshampoo bars) without adding rot knot after, but instead I soaked my dreads in white vinegar and tea tree essential oil for about 13 minutes, then rinsed.
The mold smell was gone but perhaps it was just being overpowered by the vinegar for today when i washed with the bar then rot knot, the smell is faintly returned.

I shall listen to your kind advice and await SE's return before combing out or cutting anything. Thank you

Help mold?

Help! Save My Dreads

In 2 weeks, I will have had free form dreadlocks for 4 years, but a month ago, in a hurry I did not fully dry my hair and have clearly developed mold. I know this because the smell every time they are wet.
However, I have used Rot Knot from dreadlockshampoo (still use it) and it hasnt gotten rid of the mold. I even emailed Vicki, to see if I was using it wrong, and per her instructions, it still isnt working.

I really dont want to comb out or cut out 4 years of my journey. I'm honestly saddened by this experience and would appreciate any help or alternatives.

Boiling, white vinegar, using the rest of the rot knot bottle at once, any of these things I am willing to try and more.

I could really use any wise or experienced advice.
Thank you for reading this.

Dandruff and shampooing

Dread Maintenance

Not a rant at all. Thank you so very much for this wisdom. Burnt, overworked, whatever, still very helpful.

I have so much in common with your post that I needed to read this months ago. Your solutions will be a salvation. I'm already optimistic about dry scalp again. I too always wanted the shower temp as hot as I could bear it. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why both of our scalps were always so oily?

I use the dreadlockshampoo found through links on this site. One time at a meditation retreat, I used a new friends Dr.B's (which was probably far less diluted than it should have been) and it dried me out so terribly that -- now that I think about it -- that could have been around the time all of this dry scalp started.

I don't yet have the confidence to make my own hair tea yet -- I haven't even done an acv wash yet -- but I am curious about this virgin coconut oil. My locs are young, about 9 months and some change, so do you think I should avoid using it? If not, then is there any particular kinds I should get or avoid?

Regardless, thanks for all the hope up there^

Dandruff and shampooing

Dread Maintenance

Also, this is probably a fitting question for this topic

how much should one dilute the vickis dreadlock shampoo

I have Patchouli, Dragons Blood, Tea Tree, in the liquid form (dreads are about 9 months old) and I was getting dandruff, at least I thought it was dandruff but I'm being told it's my scalp or scalp dryness - so I bought the others and now I have 3 different kinds, but neither of them makes the white flakey dryness go away. Thankfully I came across this thread and will try the cold water, but recently I was told to attempt diluting my current shampoo.

Questions:

Any advice on how much water I should add?

P.S. approximately how long do those shampoos last?

Sham Wow Towels

General Questions

If I can figure out how I got this gigantic blue microfiber towel, I'll let you know. It is definitely large enough to do the job

Sham Wow Towels

General Questions

well I'm wondering whats the difference between Shamwow and microfiber towels. I have quite a few microfiber towels/rags, some are large enough to use as a body or hair towel for after showering, so I do. I also noticed, as mentioned here^ that is soaks up water much more efficiently than normal towels but I'm slightly curious about any cons/drawbacks, e.g. maybe it removes hair, hair catches in it etc.

Hey guys!

Introduce Yourself

while reading the beginnng, i swear I almost thought I was reading something I had posted long ago for we have a very similar background: since 11, fine and ridiculously straight hair, criticism and disapproval from every direction, started natural 3 months ago.

if your inner desires this outer and your loved ones can't get behind it, how much do they really care about you and your happiness, no offense. I always bring myself back to that.. the right people will do whats right

the wrong ones might as well fade away

stay positive and good luck brother
