dread wraps?

Dread Accessories

Also the best beads I have found are on etsy! There is a shop called FlameTouchedGlass that makes incredible hand blown glass dread beads. She even takes custom orders and she let me wait two weeks to pay! Another store I commissioned is PerpetualSunshine111. She makes crochet jewelry and I saw a couple rings with healing gemstones woven in. I asked her to lengthen the ring to the size of a sleeve (about the length of a finger, width of a pencil) and use rainbow yarn with turquoise and prehnite attached. She made a beautiful piece for me for twenty bucks, and also told me she could wait for payment. I also am interested in making my own beads with polymer clay or something as simple as homemade salt dough. You can google for a recipe for the dough, shape, bake, and paint your own beads.

dread wraps?

Dread Accessories

If you need your hair to dread more try the criss cross wrap, it leaves more room for the hair to move and will allow the hair to dry a bit faster. If you haven't got any matted hair yet, go for some beads to get the dreads going more. I used shell beads last night they are small so they fit in my unlocked hair well.

Do early wraps help lock your hair? and other wrap concerns...

Dread Accessories

Happily I was informed that beading early on can greatly help hair lock up. I have seen people say that you can wrap some pieces early on, but I'm wondering how much a wrap will effect the locking of the strands it holds. Anyone here wrap their hair in the first week, and how can it effect the locking process? What's your experience with wrapping techniques, and what do you find is the best way to make pretty and lasting wraps? Is there any particular material that works best, doesn't smell, last the longest, etc.? After wrapping, what dangers do I need to watch for?

Rubbing?

General Questions

Thank you kindly, hair guru! I am gonna resist the urge to touch it! I'm sure the oils on my hands aren't doing much good either. I have jets in my bathtub and when I bathe I let the two jets on either side of my head flow through my hair, it seems to encourage some tangling rather than the water pressure "brushing" out my hair. Do you think I'm overkilling it? I'm certainly trying to mentally cope with letting it just be... my obsessive little monkey fuck brain over excites and wants to help, but mostly it just gets in the way of nature lol.

Rubbing?

General Questions

I have the extreme urge to just rub the sides of my hair in circles under the idea that this will help form knots. Is that a mistake? Is it bad for locking or just ineffective and useless, or will it help my hair lock a bit better?

Alpaca instead of wool?

General Questions

I've read that alpaca is as good as wool for helping locks forms, and that it's far softer to sleep on. Anyone know anything about alpaca compared to wool for locking? Anyone ever use it?

How often should I use an herbal rinse?

Dread Maintenance

I'm a big fan of rosemary/sage/basil/tea tree/lavender hair rinse. I don't want to over clean or over condition my hair as it is trying to lock. How often should I use an herbal rinse to assist the natural process? How much is enough, and how much is too much? Any other herbs or oils you guys recommend?

When to bead?

Dread Accessories

I released control over my hair four days ago. It's messy, but of course not locked yet. I wanted to know when is early enough to put beads into my hair and if beading can help the locking process. For beginners is a 6mm hole too large? For now I would use just wooden beads and when the hair starts to try and swallow them, maybe break the beads off... or if the beads are constricting the locks making then thin in spots. How piece-y does my hair need to be before installing a few beads? What do I need to know before I use them?
