Help! Severe hair breakage!

Help! Save My Dreads

Thank you very much! I only plan to use this until I can go shopping. I don't mind if it slows down my progress for a little while because I want to make sure my hair is healthy!

Help! Severe hair breakage!

Help! Save My Dreads

I won't be able to buy anything until the 15th...but in the meantime, I have this organic baby oil by Earth Mama that has grape seed oil, organic jojoba oil, organic chamomile flower extract, and organic calendula flower extract, which are the only 4 ingredients in it. It has basically no scent. Would that be safe to put in my hair? If so, how long would be good to leave it in before shampooing? It only has 2 oils in it and 2 extracts, so it seems safe to me!

Help! Save My Dreads

Where can I buy an aloe plant? Whenever I own a plant, I manage to over or under water them! Is there a place I can buy pure aloe vera in a bottle so I don't have to buy a plant and potentially kill it? lol

Thank you...I take Biotin, but I don't take it every day anymore! So I will start taking it every day. Where can I get pure aloe? I know where to get vitamin e and jojoba, so I will pick those up as soon as I can. How do I go about proper mixtures with the oils (how much oil to water ratio)?

Help! Severe hair breakage!

Help! Save My Dreads

I'm still struggling quite bad with hair breakage...every day lots of little pieces of hair break off. In the shower, even more little pieces break off. If I touch anywhere and VERY gently pull, I get a several little broken hairs between my fingers! I don't know what to do! I don't want to over-condition them and prevent the dreading process.

All I do is wash my hair. I don't mess with it; I've never crocheted, palm rolled, or done any other damaging things since starting my dreads. I've been washing with 'Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle shampoo' as it was what was in my budget. I read it was good with dreads and didn't really leave residues. The damage is from being dyed too often prior to starting my dreadlocks journey, I'm assuming.

I don't know if the condition my hair is in requires me to cut it and start from scratch due to irreversible damage, or if there is chance of rescue! Do I need to comb the few baby dreads I have out and repair my hair if there is a chance of rescue, or can I leave it alone and hope it can repair without risking combing out the progress I've already achieved?!

I am considering switching my washing to BS/ACV. Maybe the ACV will help repair my hair? I'm on a realllllly tight budget, so I can't afford much, but I know at least BS/ACV is very affordable. I plan to get more Vicky's dreadlock shampoo bars when I can afford it, but it is not something I can consider right now.

Bets way to start the twist and rip method?

Dreading Methods

The BEST way is to let your hair completely section naturally first! Let your hair tell you what's comfortable. Forced sectioning can cause major issues! I know from experience. If you decide after a couple of weeks that you still want to use the twist and rip starter method, then you can start that way.

I personally would start in the front, but it is all up to the individual. Grab a section and gently twist and rip. There are online tutorials on how to do the technique. Be very gentle. If it is too tight, it will actually take longer or completely prevent the dread from maturing!

You may need help with the back, or just be careful and feel around to make sure you have the sections correct. Pull the section straight out and feel around the roots...make sure you aren't forcing sections that don't belong together. Make sure the sections are comfortable...that is very important!

Some sections will be thin, some will be thicker, but try to make sure the sections aren't bigger than 1 square inch (the section doesn't have to be a literal square!) Dreadlocks naturally vary in size and shape....just go with how your hair decides to section. This is very important.

I had to comb mine out after one year because I was too impatient to let my hair section! Now, I am back to the beginning because I couldn't wait a couple of weeks for natural sectioning! I am letting most of my hair loc up naturally this time, though.

I used to think t&r would make things easier...that I would have 'control' over the sections and size. NOPE! If some hair is forced into a section it doesn't belong, it will eventually try to split from that section. Then you end up having sections your hair would have naturally intended after all! So, I can't emphasize more that it really is worth letting your hair completely section naturally FIRST! :)

David Icke Debunking Himalayan Salt?

Dread Products

I'm sure mainstream stores might sell this fake Himalayan sea salt. However, I trust that dreadlockshampoo.com and places like Trader Joe's carry the real thing. Also, I am not sure I want to listen to a man that says the Illuminati CREATED race, ethnicity, sexual preferences, and ALL religions...which were 'designed to divide and conquer the human race through endless conflict'.
