Seven months into twist and rip/back comb and my hair looks like a mop head and not at all like dreads..

Dread Maintenance

Is the tam tight? Do you think you could use a less fitted one? Seasalt soak or spray should be a 5 % ratio and its best if it's used before you shower. The salt can be just as drying to your scalp as it is to your dreads

Good Dread experiences

General Talk

I've been getting a lot of positive feedback recently, specifically about out my dreads (my hair does already draw a lot of attention because of the colors) but I'm one of those people who don't like to "comeout" about stuff I'm doing. If i get a new tattoo i don't post it all over social media or even tell anyone, I just do it. If they see it, then they do. This isn't about attention but its nice when people I share my life with take an interest and respond positively.

Combining Dreads

Introduce Yourself

Adding a wrap or beads around the ones that you want to Congo should help and wouldn't be damaging, like the Frankenstein approach

to bleach ot not to

Introduce Yourself

I'd suggest a bleachbath. Which is simply mixed bleach (as if you're about to put it on your hair) diluted with shampoo or dish soap as i used. The ratio is a 1:1 of mixed bleach and shampoo. Goes on more easily rinses cleanly and is less harsh. If you're worried about your ends you can give them a good rub with coconut oil and let it soak for 2 hours then just put your bleach bath mix directly on. Good luck :)

Help! Salon dreads

salon and loctician dreads recovery

Btw I don't recommend putting beads on your waxy dreads. Get all the gunk out first, you don't need to worry about having something on each individual dread to keep them separated you can do that as needed (as in feeling around on your head and manually separating them after a shower)

my turn to twist up

Introduce Yourself

If you don't want congos then separate. If you're worried about hair thinning at all then I wouldn't suggest putting any added stress on the scalp your hair looks curly and will probably section really easily to the size of your curls

BS Ratio Differances

Introduce Yourself

1:10 sounds right. You don't want to over dry your scalp or have so much that it leaves residual baking soda when you do the AVC rise because that will then have a science experiment like reaction on your scalp

How do you deal with peer pressure?

General Talk

I really try my best to be nice about it at first because a lot of people say those sorts of things out of pure ignorance. They don't mean any harm and i don't want to continue and negative stereotypes of people with any body modification no it wasn't your business to begin with but most people drop the subject after i explain that i see beauty in a different way. Although I'd be lying if I said I didn't tell people to piss off haha. If I'm in my jamies getting coffee and you're trying to tell I look stupid I'll tell you to go away and if it continues I'll tear then a new one but I do try to steal clear of this because I don't feel defensive about my appearance anymore

How do you deal with peer pressure?

General Talk

As a person who has people trying to correct the way I look all the time (I MEAN ALL THE TIME) just let it roll off your back, they have their ways of doing things and looking a certain way and you have yours. Just calmy (with a genuine smile) explain "to each his own" I have my standard of beauty and you have yours. there's no right or wrong.
