Neglect so far. How do I proceed?

Dreading Methods

I started off with dread knots in the back. Since I sleep om my sides there have been dread knots growing there. (whatever you call them. LOL) A musician who had long dreads told me that his dreads didn't start until about the 6 month mark. I agree with S.E. about sleeping on your sides. That's only what I've experienced though. other people might have a different opinion. everybody's dread journey, is different from the other person on here. good luck with your journey. :-)

BIRDS

Introduce Yourself

There are two doves that show up periodically, in my back yard. They land way up on the telephone lines and set there for a long time before coming down to eat the bird food that we have set out for all the little neighboring birds. If I sit on my swing and be very patient they will come down and peck at the bowl of bird food set out for them. Sometimes I sit there for a long time. I have to be very patient. The wait is worth it. They are so beautiful, and have a calming effect. I am sharing this because?...because that is how my dread journey is going, very slow. Like the doves in my back yard, it is teaching me to be patient. I've come to the point where I am not concerned as much about how fast my hair is dreading up. It will happen when I least expect it. You might think this a bit cheesy and that's ok. I just wanted to post something a little positive this time. Maybe you are a bird lover and will understand. I have golden finches, humming birds blue Jays and various other little friends. I'd like to hear some of your bird stories if you would like to.

Help me get my mind stright.

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

I feel your pain. I too have looked at the amazing timelines on here and thought, what is the matter with me? lol. some people's hair just seem to dread quicker than others. I've done what I think is the right way to take care of mine and it's taking foreverrrrrrrrr! I have not tried the bars but it sounds like a good idea. Well, I just want to encourage you, it will happen. You will have beautiful dreads. Just keep trying. Don't give up. Someday you will be able to share your story with someone just starting out.

I'm so sorry that I posted that uni-dread post. I never meant for it to be so controversial. I never meant any disrespect to anyone. Please believe me I'm not like that. Please forgive me. I will be parsimonious with my verbiage in any future postings. whew!

Hi! I hope you are doing good today. There is nothing wrong with uniform dreads, that's why I said that tnr was awesome for some people. I just like the neglect look.

well, what I was trying to say was that people who go into a shop and have their hair twist and ripped look like the next person (most of the time). I was just trying to say that I want to have dreads that don't look like the next guy.

Introduce Yourself

I want to share something that is comical to me. First, let me start out by saying that I am not trying to offend anyone. Here is what is humorous to me. Have you ever noticed how most people who have their hair tnr'd, are all the same size in diameter? They look uniform like the next guy. I had to stand back and evaluate all of the different ways to dread up. I chose to go neglect because the neglect dreadies, have their own unique personality. This site has made me really think about how I want my hair to look. Neglect is definitely a good choice for me. For some people tnr works, and I think that is awesome. This is just my opinion, silly as it is.

small diameter dreads

Introduce Yourself

Maybe someone on here can help me by answering a question for me. I have several dread balls at the end of my strands of hair. Here's the problem...the diameter of the strands of hair are about the size of a refill, that goes inside of a ball point pen. With these strands of hair being so small in diameter will they dread up?
