Dandruff from bs/avc??

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I just discovered I got dandruff.
Never had that before in my life.
I've been neglecting for almost 4 mounths and use the bakingsoda/apple cider vinegar method when washing my hair, about 2-3 times / week.
Has anyone else had this problem?
How do I make it stop?
Itchy itchy. Help!

Novice need help with separating

Dread Maintenance

I've been neglecting my hair for about 8 weeks now and i finally start to se a bit of progress.
I use the bs/avc method, dr bronners lavender/hemp soap and sometimescracked rye kernels to wash.

I discoverd three "seeds" in the back of my head and I felt so happy.
But now I'm a bit confused about how to separate them, and how often should I do that?
They are so new and hardly looks like dreads yet so I dont want to fuck them up by doing this wrong.
I've tried to search in the forum but cant find any topic that fits my question.

Any suggestiones?

Will dreads increase my pain?

General Questions

Hi Brandi!

I've looked at your pics and you look fabolouse! I realy like your wild curls together with the locks.
Its almost been a week for me of no brushing or combing but my hair looks the same as always, shiny smooth and straight.

Perhaps I need to let it grow a bit more before I start the dreadingjourny for real. Its now a bit longer that down to the shoulders.

The thing with the fibromyalgi is that my grandmother, mother and older sister has it and Im sure Im suffering from the same thing. But when Ive been at doctors they dont want to say I have it... dont know why.
The most difficult part is that its so hard to explain to others.. (new) friends, coworkers, boss...
And also that I never can predict how Im gonna feel tomorrow.

Do you use any medicine becouse of your fibro?
(Sorry for my lack in expression myselfe.. english is not my first language :) )

Jag nskar dig en God Jul / I wish you a Merry Christmas!

Hello Juniper! I am sorry to hear about your pain, that is the worst! I can relate to everything you described. I do have fibromyalgia, along with lupus, neuropathy, and rhematory arthritis. I have taken every pain medicine known to man (I think) including marijuana. Unfortunately nothing helps too much, it just takes the edge off. I understand your concerns as far as pain while dreading. I am almost 8 months in and the only thing that has really caused any kind of pain, and it's not real bad, is the whole washing bit. I have a hard time holding my hands/arms up for too long. It's great as far as not having to shampoo every day, I shampoo every other day. With undreaded hair it's easy to rinse the shampoo from your hair without much effort. With dreads, I make sure to rinse and rinse (and rinse) inbetween them squeezing the water through them so as to not leave any shampoo inside. It definitely takes a toll on my arms. I understand what Soaring Eagle was referring to as far as the separating pain but other than the pain of pulling your hair and possible headaches (LOL) you can do a few and rest and then move on to the others. I really hope they find a diagnosis for you soon so you can get a treatment. I'm not a doctor and I can't even begin to list how many I've seen but you have literally described EVERY ache and pain I have from fibromyalgia. There is no real test for the disease so how do they know you don't have it? I wish you the best....feel better!

Will dreads increase my pain?

General Questions

Ah ok. Sounds nice with different sizes. Will the locks grow different in lenght becouse of the width?
I imagine it takes a longer time for a thick dread to reach its girth, and also that a dread grows girth first and then starts to grow in lenght. Or is that just in my imagination?

thin hair its good to have a mix odf sizes a few thicker ones a couple medium and a bunch of thin to fill in make it look fuller and thicker the riiot area at the scalp determines the eventual dread size (roughly might not be exact) if u use a 1 inchsection the dread will be around 1 inch hair thickness doesnt change this (much at all anyway

Will dreads increase my pain?

General Questions

That is good to hear, thank you! Im just a bit worried that when the roots of the hair is in a dread it will pull a bit in the scalp and couse tension, and in thoes really bad days when i cant stand another person touching me, im just gonna regret ever trying to grow dreads..
I still think I have to try before I know for sure so I might as well just go for it.

I'm sorry you're in so much pain, I can somewhat relate to it but in a different way. If you have dreads, you won't have to worry about it causing neck or scalp pain for a long time, if ever. It's only if they're very thick or very long that the weight starts to add up. If you're going for thin dreads, it'll most likely be when they're very long that they can add pain to the neck or scalp. And if it's not a bad idea to you, you may just trim them when they get long enough to cause pain; that way, you can keep dreads for as long as you want, but avoid them adding to your pain :)

As for separating, when the sections start to tangle together, you pull them apart to stop them joining together, that's all; do it as often as you need.
