Second thoughts

Introduce Yourself

The last few weeks, I have had second thoughts. I am getting ready to enter my seventh month and frankly my hair is unsettling to say the least. My hair has strunk so much in the back, but not the front. The dreads are flat and lumpy. I am ripping them to keep them from congoing. But more important, the looks I get ranch from funny to down right nasty. I know when I go out in public, I get judged easily and wrongly.Somehow I started questioning why I did this. All the preparing I did seems to be crumbling. Is this normal???? Is this just a phase of my hair?? Did anyone else question themselves as it gets more real?

What do your parents/friends think of your locks?

General Talk

My whole family is very conservative . I was the first to breastfeed my children, all over two years. I make my own clothes, grow and can my food. I ride my bike or walk most of the time. They see my hair as just one more bizzare thing I am involved in . They were upset when I took my Buddhist vows and cannot believe I camp and go to hippie festivals. My Mom made me promise, that if she died, I would cover my hair. I just remind myself it is my life journey, not theirs, and continue to love them.My sister says, her kids admire me because I never let it bother me, and I am an example to do what I want without hurting others.Be kind, keepin clean, you will win them over, even if they don't understand why you need to dread.

We carry ourworld in our dreads, avisualreminder of our life. Our lives are not perfect. Your dreads are beautiful, imperfections and all. Let your "mistake" just be a lesson to help you grow and teach others. In some way you are still "making" your dreads. If you tear them out, you might start imaging what you want, and start trying to get them to go that way. They healed beautifully. Let that be the guide in your life, how no matter the circumstance, you will be stronger for it.

How I can grow my hair faster and healthy.

General Questions

There are two ways to determine our hair fate. One is look at our families. What does their hair look like? The other thing is how we care for ourselves. What we eat, wash with, work or relax. Start with diet. The closer to natural the better. Drop things like pop, junk food, processed food.Eat tons of fresh fruit and vegetables. Organic if possible, H2O a plenty, Snack on nuts and seeds. If you can, go vegetarian. Meats are not the only source of protein.Use products made more naturally, less chemicals. Fresh air, sunshine, and relaxing, all help reduce stress which helps your body. My problem with products that are use to grow hair, must be used forever.

A new TV series with the intention to dispel the myths and stereotypes around people with dreadlocks

Dreads as Community Leaders/Builders

That was beautiful!!! It is most definitely how I will end mine. A goodbye ceremony when my journey is over. Thanks and hope the show is a success.

Lastly, how about letting them go. The ceremonies people do when they cut them off. Illness, moving on in life etc where people actually grieve the loss. Showing it is so much more than hair!

It's good to be back.

Introduce Yourself

They look awesome!!! Keep going and go back to the liquid shampoo from Vicki's dreadlockshampoo. It is really great in helping hair lock up. If you have the cash, her dreadlock gel works really nice too. But I just wanted you to know you look great.
