Tight roots

Dread Maintenance

Mine did the same did the same thing, my hair is curly and it dreaded up so fast in the back my roots got tight, so far i have just allowed them to grow some which has helped, dreads are ever changing so they have loosened and tightened and loosened again etc.
If one or two single hairs are tugging its usually because they dont "belong" in that one dread so i separate them out. And found a way to sleep without any tugging, (for me moving them all in one direction did the trick.)
I also avoid rubbing too much (such as while washing) so that im not making more knots form to fast.
Letting my hair get a bit more "dirty" and therefore a tiny bit more natural oils being in the hair helps a little too.

Hope you can find a solution!

Good luck!

Tea Tree Oil for treating dandruff?

General Questions

I put tea tree and lavender EO (few drops each until it smells as strong as i want) in warm water and soak my head in it as if doing a BS wash.

Nice smelling hair

Introduce Yourself

I mixed lavender EO and tea tree EO with water in a spray bottle and mist my hair with it every morning, keeps your scalp from getting those itches and keeps your hair fresh and clean smelling. But is light enough that it doesn't bother any knots and wont make your hair oily. :) You could use any other EO's you like but i would use tea tree or mint or rosemary in the mix to keep that fresh smell and to serve as an anti-bacterial/anti-fungal; so it helps you go a little longer between washing's too if you want it too.

Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo with Peppermint??

Dread Products

I have used it, and I like it. It can leave my hair feeling a little bit dry but other than that I have had no issues.

Sectioning??

General Questions

Yeah I don't mind that it's flat, the dread it's self is rounded too. It's over 1 inch but I don't think it's over 1 1/2 inch so then it should be fine in the long run?And cool, yeah since those ones were free form they probably started off desperate and joined in early stages. Good to know it will do its own thing! Thanks!

Sectioning??

General Questions

Hi all!
I have free-form dreads in the make that are probably 6 months old now and pretty mature, they are tight and shrunken up, and haven't shrunken more in a while. They were not sectioned at all.
front and most of the sides are TnR and sectioned at random but are still where i "want" them.

I'm wondering if there are any really annoying issues with not having sectioned them? in the future when they are long and i'm doing different hair-dos will this pose an issue??

Also, I have one in the back, at the top that seems like the root section is too big, and its a flat shape and the roots are trying to turn into separate dreads, yet the body of the actual dread is together.
I'm wondering if it would be best to take it out, and section it better? or is this really just all up to how I feel about it?? I just want to avoid future issues.

Thanks!

Anna.

Second thoughts

Introduce Yourself

Mine did this, and still is somewhat longer in the front, and i have a few that were too big so i separated them which made the ends come undone, therefore they are strangely longer than the rest.

Its a phase, mine was only that way for a while, and would have been for less time if i hadn't pulled my hair back so much.
People will judge you regardless. I'm so used to being stared at already that my hair only seems to cause them to stare a bit longer and more blatantly. Oh well. So they are rude and have no self control, so what? You are going to let a strangers opinion dictate how YOU choice to wear your hair?
Let your hair go. The point of dreads is to relinquish your need for control, gain power from freedom.
Let others opinions and judgement go. How can you be YOU, if you let others who aren't even part of your life, just people without decency, have such an affect on you?

Wishing you strength on your path :)

(p.s. lumpy bumpy dreads are the best!)

Dreading Methods

I would suggest reading some of the info this forum has to offer you. I has a lot of info about the different methods and can help you learn what method might be best for you, and also educates about some methods that can be more damaging and less ideal than you thought before.
Read some of the other posts and responses as well :)

Best of luck!
