Thinning hair and dreads.

General Talk

Since amino acids are the building blocks of protein, it always confused me that most "hair and nail" supplements are just biotin.... No silica, and no aminos. I took biotin for a very long time and I didn't see a difference when my hair was straight. It's always been brittle and snaps if you pull it so I'm deficient in either protein on the hair shaft or moisture. Since dreading, I don't have to do masks anymore though thank goodness. Would you say you're probably missing out on some nutrients? Once, I had a hairstylist tell me that taking a multi boosts the effectiveness of biotin, is there any truth to her statement?

Off topic rant. Need to vent...I swear I got the heart of Buddah and Dracula combined...

General Talk

This is why I'm not having kids. I don't want them to deal with this world. Seriously though, call the cops on that mofo. You have to do something and not just watch it happen.

New baby dreads 2 months old~

Introduce Yourself

Chandra, I have some roots connected for almost an inch, but not fully dreading as one so I just leave them alone. If I tried to separate, hairs might come outta the scalp, eek. So, it's probably best to do what your scalp will allow. Our first month photo will show what happens if you don't separate(a matted beaver tail). I don't know if you have a wholesale club near you, but I picked up a giant resealable bag ofbakingsoda for only $6 and it has lasted so long. It's funny that you're using a clarifying shampoo cause that's what we used(Giovanni tea tree) in the first few months and for a year before dreading. Not all c.s. are gentle, like s.e. Said... So stopping now to make sure there's no chance of gunk or chemicals left over in the "spine" of your dreads. Please continue to take timeline photos !

Dread Craft Show and Trade

Thanks for the responses everybody. Definitely a better turnout here.@ S.E.: send your head measurement if you can get it so I can make you a custom one! Since your dreads are super long, send your preferred length, too. It's the least I could do for you starting this whole community.Everybody else, I'll be messaging you! Since I've got quite a bit of fabric, I think I can do more than one :)

Headband Giveaway Feb 2014

Dread Craft Show and Trade

So, we *tried* to do our 3rd giveaway on our blog and even included youtube subscribers in the eligible to win but somehow it failed... like 200 people and it still failed. Either the prize wasn't worth trading their mailing address for, or none of the 3 people who were picked check their inboxes, so it's up for grabs still... Anybody want a handmade headband?Yes, we're just giving this away... might stuff some other goodies in the package, too. If there's a response to this, we will do giveaways here specifically for all our dreaded (and non) friends here at dreadlockssite. All you have to do is live in the u.s., and be willing to message us your shipping info(we value privacy and promise we wont use it for anything other than shipping). I can alter a headbands length and width for you if you send your head measurement, too. (You wont be sent the headband that has been worn in the photo, but it is cut from the same cloth) A salvaged vintage fabric blend of cotton and spandex. It is stretchable and washable. Possibly even dyable. It will be sent in either a reused, or reusable mailer.Just send a message saying "I want it" and we will inform you if you were the first to get your info and send it out. Ready? Go!

Good thing you came here. There's quite a bit of false and glamorized "info" elsewhere. Don't wish for blunt tips! I have them (Mrs.) and the water takes forever to get out. I wish mine had not blunted, but that's just what happened since mine are neglect,

crochet dreads discussion and pictures

Dreading Methods

I didn't notice they use latchhooks until you pointed this out. That means the hairs can get stuck in the joint, too. Ouch!Great post S.E.! Really informative.

Novice need help with separating

Dread Maintenance

If they are still very immature and super tiny, it might undo progress if they're ripped apart. I waited too long and had to cut a few pieces of hair. Don't let it get to beaver tail status if that's not what you want, cause its super hard to separate at that point. I think the separating rate depends on your progress. Even if you do accidentally unknot one, odds are that it will go back to knotting in no time. I'm no expert though, just speaking from our experiences.
