Help Itchy Itchy Scalp

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Thanks SE yes I have always suffered from dry skin. It could just be the slight change in the weather too. I was on a trip to WI last week where the I definitely changed the water temperature due to the colder air outside. Unfortunately the itching started before I left for WI. I am sure the climate change did not help things. I am now back in sunny So Cal and still itchy! I will contact Vicki and ask her about the product. Thank youKaren

Help Itchy Itchy Scalp

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

My natural/neglect are 14mth old. & for about 3wks my scalp has been overwhelmingly itchy. I use Vicki's dreadlock shampoo and have not changed anything else in my routine i.e.laundry detergent, soaps, body wash. I know the weather is changing and the air is somewhat dryer but I live in Southern CA and we don't have too drastic of a weather change. I work with young children and thought worse case scenario lice, but I've been checked and no buggers, thank goodness! Any and all suggestions for one itchy dreaded mama welcome thanks & peace

Quick shrink?

Dread Maintenance

I was so afraid of short hair that I didn't dread my hair for 20yrs! It's a year later and my hair is above my shoulders! It is what it is and I still love my dreads. Although I cannot wait for them to grow.

Quick shrink?

Dread Maintenance

Oh man mine shrunk so much in what seemed to be overnight. Check out my most recent photo. I just passed one year. If you look at how long my hair was to start with it is crazy!

Grand-Mommy Has Dreads!

Introduce Yourself

Welcome to the journey. Never too old! I'm 45 and stopped brushing August 2013. I had wanted to let my hair dread for 20yrs and was always afraid of shrinkage so I never let it happen. Now over a year in I love my short(yes they shrunk) natural dreads. Peace

Second thoughts

Introduce Yourself

Definitely hang in there. I am at the end of my 9th month and I started out with hair just past my breasts and it has shrunk to just above my shoulders! I also have 4 sections of hair on the side of my head, close to the front that have barely begun to dread so I understand the frustration. I have wanted dreads for about 20yrs and I never would just let go in fear of my hair shrinking. You never know how much your hair will shrink and well mine did shrink! I would say about 60-70% of the length is gone. I know this is a process and it will continue to change and my dreads will grow. I also have lumpy bumpy dreads, it's OK just let them be, they will work themselves out. I just keep telling myself this will take time & patience. Hang in there. Your dreads will be beautiful.

Teachers with dreads

dreads jobs employment issues

I work in a Kindergarten classroom. This is my 2nd yr at the school. I am in my 8th month of natural dreads. I have to be honest and say my hair is not anywhere close to looking neat or can I at this point make it look neat. My hair has dreaded more quickly on one side of my head than the other & I actually have hair just above shoulder length on one side and an entire section of long hair on he other side that goes almost to my breast. I have very wavy hair and before dreads I would just wash, comb and go. It could get pretty big and frizzy. I would mostly wear it in a ponytail or bun and have tried to do that since I began dreading in September of 2013. My hair has now shrunk so much a lot of the underneath dreads stick out of my bun. On days I wash I fear putting it all the way up may cause it not dry quickly enough and I don't want mold so I just pull the sides back and take it out while I am on breaks w/out the kids. I have not had any comments good nor bad at this point but it is quite obvious something is going on with my hair lol I do live in Los Angeles CA which I suppose most anything goes here. I'm not sure if that helps or not at least it may give a sense of where your hair may go. Everyone's hair dreads and shrinks differently.

Keeping ends unblunted?

General Talk

I am in my eighth month and I too feared shrinkage. I have always had long hair, only cutting it 3 times in the last 10yr to donate it. I have wanted dreads for over 20yrs but was afraid of shrinkage and now in my 8mth my hair has shrunk from just below my breasts to above my shoulders! Basically A LOT of shrinkage. I have very wavy hair. I have gone natural and some ends have blunted and some not. Just let it be & it will do what it wants to do. Now I'm committed & I try to remind myself it will grow, it will grow. Think if I had just let it go 20yr ago, what beautiful long dreads I would have now?

HELP Losing the Faith

General Questions

Thanks for all the kind, funny & inspiring words. The pics are of my 10yo who really could care less at the shrinkage of her hair. This is more about her crazy Mom lol. She is about a month ahead of me & I have similar craziness going on so this is probably is anticipation for all the shrinkage to come on my hair. What I am learning from this is that I need to take a lesson from my child & live a more care-free life & just enjoy the ride & try to live in the moment & enjoy it as it comes. Thanks again lots of love & patience to you allKaren
