white people all lie about having natural dreads (acording to 1 youtube moron)

General Talk

Some people are very ignorant. Even when evidence is presented to them they just look away and pretend it's not there. Hell, I'm white as can be, mostly straight hair, only 3 months in and I have distinct dreads forming.

Never backcombed, waxed, or anything of the sort.

Should I comb out my dreads?

General Questions

Thank you so much for replying, and I normally wash with baking soda every four or five days. My hair takes a while to get dirty when I use that. If I run out and can't get more, I use a clarifying shampoo with no leftover residue and no conditioning properties.

I'm allergic to basically everything so I love baking soda XD

And I always always ALWAYS air dry. Blowdrying has never worked for me, it takes 45 minutes plus, and it's still damp! And that's when I have un-knotted hair.

yes look at me! lol there are a few others that had it take several months or near a year to start anything as well. some of us just need plenty of time. it can be frustrating at times, but you just have to relax & let it go. forget about your hair for a while, they will do what they need to without your worry. go on with your life, & then one day you'll get a compliment from a stranger or catch a glimpse of yourself & they will have come a very long way. check out my timeline, slowly but surely beautiful things will happen <3

what are you washing with & how are you washing & drying? sometimes these things can make a difference as well.

Should I comb out my dreads?

General Questions

That gives me more hope. You don't think they'll stay so thin?

Should I comb out my dreads?

General Questions

It's been three months since I stopped combing my hair, and I have little progress. I have one dread at the nape of my neck that is quite locked, but all the others just look almost like regular hair! They're very thin and often come apart in water. I'm beginning to think my hair type is impossible for natural dreads, which really bums me out. I have heavy, dense, silky semi-straight hair that never holds a curl.

I feel I'll never have dreads, so the question is, should I just give up and comb them out?
And don't bs me, if you don't think my dreads will ever form or look nice, don't just tell me to be patient.

I've attached a picture for reference.

Btw, that's on a good day, when my hair decides to be a little more adventurous rather than being stick-straight and flat.

Natural persecution

Introduce Yourself

I'm only three weeks in and i've gotten a few comments. Only positive, though. I think it's because i look kind of intimidating, so strangers don't feel brave enough to walk up to me and tell me off XD My cousins and boyfriend love what i'm doing with my hair and every time they see me they're always saying "wow, they've changed a lot from the last time!" and such.

Dread Maintenance

Though I've been dreading for nearly two months, I did my first bs wash last night. Not even kidding, my scalp has never felt this clean after 24 hours!

(Previously I was using a clarifying shampoo for oily hair, but I think I'll be switching to bs as soon as I can pick up some more.)

Suitable hair colours?

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

The reason i'm asking is because i can't tell what looks good on me, at all, lol. On other people i can, just not myself. Plus nobody ever tells me i look good in a certain colour.

And to make it worse, even that dye that washes out in one wash stays for weeks in my hair since i'm a blonde and my hair is super porous.

I'm not sure what would work for you but maybe you can try holding up different colored shirts or something to your face and see what looks best on you. Or if there is a color people say you look good in chances are that would work. If you're worried about the wrong color some dyes stick around a lot longer than others so you could start off with a dye that is known to fade easilly...just in case. Good luck

Suitable hair colours?

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

I've been thinking about dying the front undreaded bits of my hair a crazy colour, but i'm not sure what would suit me best. I'd rather know ahead of time if something's going to make me look perpetually ill.

If anyone could point out some colours that would match with my skintone and eye colour that would be great. Attached are some helpful photos of my skin and such, for you to make your decisions :)

Thanks!

Newly dreading, fine hair, lots of questions!! (Sorry - I'm going to be such a bother, I am sure of it!)

General Questions

I have very fine hair as well! Mine are dreading quite quickly, i was surprised. I'm only about 3 weeks in but if you look at my picture, you can see that they're sectioning nicely and starting to shrink up a bit :3 Oh and if you do look at them, don't be alarmed by the sparseness of them XD That's less than half my hair since i have super short layers up top.
