The hair on top?

Dread Maintenance

So I've noticed how the layers underneath (but mostly in the middle) of my hair are dreading quite nicely. However the top of my hair has yet to even begin to lock up. Is there any way to sort if cause some friction on the top of my head order to get the top dreading at the same rate as the rest of my hair? I know patience is virtue but lately I've been getting impatient and discouraged. I need some words of hope lol. Please and thank you,Love to all <3

Palm Rolling Dreads?

General Questions

From what I've heard, palm rolling will not slow down the locking process. It may even speed it up a bit...however, if you do palm roll all the time you have to be VERY careful not to start at the very top if the hair or your roots will become weak and your dreads will form weak spots which could cause the dread to break and fall off all together.

How to care for my dreads between washes? Also a quick essential oil question (:

Dread Maintenance

Oh ok I see what you're saying, thanks a lot SE! It's hard to not shower every day because I'm so accustomed to doing it, but that's all part of this journey. I'm also not accustomed to not combing or washing my hair every day. I love how this isn't just a "dread journey", but more of a "life journey"! I've already learned so much and i can't wait to absorb so much more information. I'm really thankful for this site you've created, god bless (:

Dread Maintenance

I'm a bit confused by your response, are you saying just to not shower until i want to wash my dreads? And I haven't used harsh soaps in years. I only use an all natural bar soap every other time i shower, besides that i just let the water do the work.

How to care for my dreads between washes? Also a quick essential oil question (:

Dread Maintenance

Hello all,

I'm aware I should only be washing at the most every 3 days or so, and I also know I should wait until my hair is fully dry before I get it wet again. I was just wondering if in between washes if it's ok if i do get my hair wet or should I try to keep it dry? If so what's the easiest way you've found to keep it dry in the shower?

Also, I've recently ordered some essential oils (rosemary, lavendar, and peppermint). I put 5-10 drops of the rosemary and lavendar in with either my baking soda wash or my ACV rince (depending on if I use the ACV or not). I've only tried them twice since i've gotten them and I noticed that my dry scalp and dandruff hasn't improved much but my hair is a lot softer. This worries me because my hair doesn't seem to be as tight as it was. Can these oils be causing my dreads to come undone? Maybe i'm just wetting my hair too often..idk.

Anyways, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million ;) and happy dreading!

Hair length for beginners

General Questions

Hello (:

I'm going for the all natural neglect method for my dreadlocks. I have about shoulder length hair with some layers. So far it's been about a year and a half since I last used shampoo, I've just been using the baking soda and ACV rinses with some essential oils. It's been about 4 days since i last combed my hair. I noticed how some hairs kindof clumped together like they know they want to become dreads or something lol. But I'm just curious, will it take significantly longer for my hair to dread since it's so short? Also, will my layers interfere? My shortest layer is about at the middle of my ears.

Thanks everyone,

Love and Light<3

Natural Dreadlock Questions

Dread Maintenance

Thanks for the advice, i didn't know i wasn't supposed to leave the salt spray on. And as for washing, although i'm not sure if i should or not, i used just a little bit of head and shoulders dandruff shampoo. I know it obviously won't help me as far as dreads, but my dandruff is really bad so i must use it, especially since the dreading process is itchy and i scratch my scalp sometimes (which causes more dandruff).
