Dreads RUINED! Help restarting????

Help! Save My Dreads

Long story short, I had a bit of a breakdown and a lady in the psych ward conditioned my dreads and I had to comb them all out. My hair now feels heavy with a buildup of chemical gunk, how do I start over?? ;(

My mother's mindset makes me sad :(

Life Issues Facing Dreads

My mother is your average consumer, she works a really tough job and like most people is really vain and insecure and prefers to dwell in her own misery and thus spreads negative energy around.

I moved away to Europe and haven't seen her for a long time because I had to find my own path. At first it was really difficult adjusting here because I was stuck in my bad habits and routines. But I've met some really awesome likeminded people and spend time with them a lot.

My mother like the majority of society absolutely does not understand dreadlocks. I sent her a long message about how I miss her and actually did love her my whole life but couldn't tell her because I hated myself. I explained to her that dreadlocks have given me confidence to just be myself without all the makeup and burning my hair etc. to fit in to everyone else's expectations. Free to literally just be myself!

She sent me a positive message about how she always knew I loved her but hated myself and had to have somebody to blame. But then she turned it negative and said " I love you no matter what, even if you are hiding in piercings and dreadlocks. " She tried to tell me how soft my hair was when I was a baby..yes but because chemicals were placed on it!

This comment honestly upsets me a bit simply because it's the total opposite!! Dreadlocks have set me free to be myself! My whole life I was hiding, I'm done hiding!! Not to mention piercings and dreadlocks are not the same!

How do I explain this to her in the kindest way possible. Natural hair is natural beauty! Hair is power! :)

**Let me start by saying dreadlocks are not just a hairstyle if you grow them naturally.

They will completely change your entire outlook on life if you can really open your heart and stop judging based on outward appearances, and stop hating yourself for what you're not. Love yourself for who you are and you can truly love others back for the first time!

At least that's what happened to me. I hated myself my entire life and spread around negative energy because of my insecurities. It took a journey like this to help me realize it and let go of the past! <3 **

Now for my timeline :D

Week 1

For the first time in my life I have had confidence! Free to be. <3

Week 2 I put a couple beads in to mark my very first two knots

My husband noticed my brand new confidence and said "you shine lately." He is so beautiful.

One month I can hardly believe how fast my hair is dreading!! My confidence is booming!! My husband lovingly took the time to separate a bunch of dreads that were all trying to combine. He put beads on each of them to speed up the dreading process there.

When I was militant about it I heard the same excuses each and every day. I'm sorry but I just won't accept them. I grew up in the US eating the same garbage as everyone else, and somehow I was able to go vegan in a day and never look back but you weren't? Vegetarian..pescaterian..just cut the crap and go vegan already!!!!

Humans are naturally fruitarian! :) I used to be quite militant about being vegan but I have learned over time not to force it on people because it does no good, just creates anger and hatred because meat eaters are more aggressive from the suffering they eat on a daily basis. I just try to inspire people with my health.

Can I add a decoration to my dreadlock yet?

Dread Accessories

I just created one dread via the backcombing method. I have not used a crochet hook or any products whatsoever and don't plan to, I plan to just let it lock up over time. All I'm going to do is wash it of course.

I am just wondering whether it is okay for me to add a yarn decoration at the very end of my dreadlock yet? If I just add it at the very very end will the rest of it still knot okay? Any help would be much appreciated!
