Growing Plants. no-dig

dready interests

Anyone here a gardener? Im big into growing vegetables. Also like growing some flowers.

Just recently started reading up on no-dig gardening. To quote Charles Dowding

using a system of permanent slightly raised beds and permanent paths. Worms and other soil life do the digging and keep the soil open. There are few weeds, because the soil is not panicked by being disturbed into 're-clothing' itself, which happens when the reservoir of weed seeds lying dormant in every soil are exposed to light, when soil is disturbed.

The key principle is to mulch, mulch, mulch with compost so the worms arealwaysfed. It's not 'the lazy method' as i sometimes hear it described asthere'sa lot of work in gathering, transporting and spreading the compost or bark chips orwhateveryou want to use. However, mulching can be done in any weather. (unlike digging which is best done when the soil is neither water logged nor bone dry). And if you suffer from a bad back like I do, you willimmediatelyrealizethe benefit of not digging.

So if your interested look it up.

2013 is the year I learnt that to be more organic I need to throw away my spade as well as my comb! (I just said that for emphasis, the spade is stillveryuseful for removingperennialweeds, colecting manure and lifting potatoes).

Ahh thanks, Just tonight I've noticed a small amount of Dandruff. I will make sure to rinse well with cold water tomorrow after I wash my hair.

Washing Dreads

Dread Maintenance

The first time I washed with bicarb soda my scalp really tingled alot. The second wash only tingled slightly andsubsequentwashes dont tingle at all. why is that?

Im now in week 3 and noticing that my hair is needing washing less as in it stays cleaner for longer. I've got my first very small knot forming at the back of my head yey!

Why do they say wash in cold water. I've been using hot water so far. I would rather use hot water than cold if it just slows down the dreadingprocessim in no rush.

Cheers

Paul

Starting some Dreads in the U.K.

Introduce Yourself

Hey Guys, Found this sitecompletelyby accident. I googled "escaping babylon" as I was curious about rastfarian culture and some of its terminology. Dreadlockssite came up top due to one of the groups being named this. I got to reading the dreaducation and was amazed to learn that you could grow lovely natural dreads the neglect way and have clean hair!

I tried dreads 6 years ago the backcombing way. When the hair started falling out I added wax. when they got icky I undid them all (and threw away all they broken hair that came out). I never tried again.

Untill now!

i'm going for natural method (I refuse to say neglect)

I don't comb my hair anyway. up to last week I did wash and condition my hair twice a week and reguarly "finger combed" especially in the shower. This has stopped. Now im washing my hair with bicarb, cider vinegar and some essential oils. 1 week in.

A little bit about me. I work for a nature conservation organisation. My job is leading a team of volunteers carrying out practical conservation work on nature reserves. I love my job. My main hobby is growing vegetables. I also love walking in the countryside and exploring ancient places.

Peace I look forward to chatting to you guys as I start my Journey.

Paul
