Why did I open my Big Mouth?

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

I got the same exact reaction from my parents after growing my hair out for 3 years. "You have such beautiful hair!" "Dreads are going to stink!" etc. The best way to diffuse those situations is arm yourself with knowledge and bust all those misnomers people come at you with about dreads. Your life is your path to walk and no one elses. After I started my dreads, of course everyone said "Wow they look cool." " Yeah I can see how that style suits you."

Do what you want to do, be happy and enjoy the journey. If your parents look to YOU to make THEM happy instead of themselves, they are mistaken. Peace is found within. :)

Newly Backcombed and Waxed Dreads opinions.

Again, thank you everyone for the input. But opinions are not as important as the respect we give each other despite those opinions. Everyone will not always agree of course, but once the information is put in front of an individual its up to them to make the choice. I thank you all for your time and energy, lets keep the vibes positive. ;)

Thanks for all the input everyone. I have been researching like crazy since this discussion started. Whats funny is I had a guy with dreads who was a hair stylist come in to my work and I started talking to him. He said wax was ok and recommended using it the twist and rip method.

I think there is definitely a lot of info out there and most of it seems to be very polar (Do this, DONT do this). I'm going to stay away from wax, over all what I read doesn't seem to warrant any real benefit other than control of the look of the dread and not the ultimate health of the dread.

I'll keep you all updated as I progress. Im really NOT into the idea of re-sectioning my hair. Is it that big of a deal? :/

Dreading Methods

Alright everbody. Thanks for all the help, I have ordered some wax remover. I also took the bands out for now. I plan on getting rid of the wax, then re- back combing to tighten up the hair andthe roots. I know most of the people on hereprofess the most natural way possible is the best.I rinsed with hot water thouroughly a few times to try to get some of the wax out. Whats going to keep my roots from drawing together without banding though in the first few months? Im still reading through this site and other sites for info. Just seems like there is a TON of polarizing info on dreading out there. Heres what my hair is looking like today. Thanks again everyone!
