paganism in a christian society
Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures
Hm, I know it may clog up the front page, but after all, a lot of people dread for spiritual reasons. So maybe this fits in somewhere?

*sigh* ExaltHimx7, I wish you could have a conversation with my family. LOL.
I forgot to add, I do agree with/acknowledge the theory of evolution. Mind you it's not just an idea but theory is the highest you can get when it comes to science, so that title should earn it a lot of respect in the scientific community. No matter how our ancestors got here, I agree that we evolved from them into the many species we are today. [I am talking about all species, not just humans]
I was raised Roman Catholic but there were too many things that didn't add up to me. Mostly ancient species, like dinosaurs and such. The great flood. And Genesis... sooo many things about Genesis don't add up. My sister was Wiccan and though she's Mormon now [go figure lol] I leaned a little bit toward what I learned from her. It still sticks with me no matter what, and I think that is because like Hippiegal, I also feel the very closest to everything ancient and holy when I am with nature. It doesn't matter if I'm cooking, baking [bread and sweets usually], harvesting herbs from my garden, planting my garden, tending it, taking a walk to work and smelling the sweet scent of the dirt and leaves and pine needles... I love to celebrate the seasons, too. :D I'm just a pagan in general but Wicca gives me structure, if that makes any sense. I also feel there are both truth and lies in everything, and right now there is a battle between the lies of Christianity and the lies of every other belief system on this planet. Well, in America, anyway. Many people believe our society is Christian, our government is Christian, everybody needs to adhere to Christian principles.... I disagree. Again, there are truth and lies in everything, and this is why everyone needs to have the freedom to believe and practice as they so choose. Although you will not see me celebrating *Christian* holidays such as Christmas or Halloween or Easter, but rather Yule, Samhain, and... well ok that last one is Easter, too. :D
Any idea where I can find one [tam] locally at this time of year?? :/ I have a *very* bad habit of playing with my hair.

Although tomorrow I think I am going to see if I can't find an already-made tam somewhere so I can not mess with my hair. That's one thing that makes it oily, kinda like when you touch your face a lot. I also would love to have a scalp healthy enough that I only have to wash once or twice a week. Sooo... wish me luck. haha.

Try cutting back on washing your hair slowly. I don't know if it works this way or not, but it seemed to for me...I washed everyday, then I stopped brushing.. Cut back to washing hair every 2 days, then every 3 days... Over the course of 2 months I worked up to 7 or 8 days without washing my hair. [lol i kind of lost count, i was mostly just being a lazy bum]
I know all hair types are different and this may not work for you. But it did for me, possibly worth a shot! Good luck!

I think I can find an extra t-shirt around here somewhere... :D

After you wash/wet your hair, wrap a T-shirt on your head. That sucks up the extra water. Then, air-dry.
What kind of bar soap are you suggesting? I have an olive oil soap that's lavender EO scented and has oatmeal... and then I have Fels-Naptha. lol.

Bar soap+hair dryer. also, there's this stuff at Walmart and its like sea salt spray. it smells good, and would dry it out. I would say spray it on your hair the days you don't wash it.
Thanks Torie. I will try the hair dryer, too. I've been driving with both front windows down also. Like I said I know it takes time but I don't wanna go backwards. Now, if I can take a shower [weird water leak in the basement ]... lol.

Yea, or make some. Damaged hair dreads better then healthy hair, why? Healthy hair is smooth and silky, like one continuious stand, damaged hair has "ridges'' in it, and when ridges from one strand gets caught on the ridges of another strand, it creates a knot type deal. So this process continues and that's when dreadlocks form. If you blow dry it, that will dry up your hair and makes your locks tighter.
If I don't wash every other my scalp gets oily and it drives me NUTS. I will give it another try, though, and see if it changes any. I will have to try not to touch it *at all*, also. Hard to do cuz I like to put it in a loose tie when I'm at work... heh. :D thanks.
