Dread Products

Thanks :)

I did come here last year before cutting my hair... I got lots of advice on how to untangle the unsalvageable TnR but I couldn't for the life of me get it out. Nothing. I think the knot was too tight and wasn't moving.

I can't remember all the ingredients, can't find a list. And these are not the first ones listed so not the major major ingredients (except petrolatum, it was #2), but here is what I remember: Petrolatum, beeswax (#5 or 6 on the list?), castor oil, coconut oil.

And nope I am not black. Caucasian >_<

I will donate. But can you msg me with an address?

Okay so... don't hate me, please spare me the lecture. Please.

But recently I went to a salon *merely* because I have no one to help me w a starter method. I had to cut my dreads last year bc I was not maintaining the few I had and the were not fixable. Anyway... I only had them backcombed. But I went back bc I needed major help w separation and I thought she was putting a rinsable cream in my hair but it was an emulsifier. Please please please tell me this shit washes out??

I already feel like a fool. I do not want to cut my hair so hoping someone can help :/ I am so sad...

so why is everyone so hateful?

General Talk

I haven't had too many bad experiences...my MiL who is black happens to think that dreadlocks are a "race thing" and that blacks started them. I don't talk to her much about it because she is never wrong, if you catch my drift ;) One of her friends told me I don't really have dreadlocks. "Are you trying to do dreadlocks or something?" I told him no, I AM doing dreadlocks lol "You can'tjust have nappy hair and call it dreadlocks." I guess he spent some time on Virginia Beach helpingjamaicans (Sorry can't capitalize it, have to c/p myj's lol) dreadlock their hair so his bald ass KNOWS all about dreads you know. I have had a couple of people tell me dreadlocks are for "dykes" or that they are nasty or creepy... Ijust ignore them... I think a lot of peoplejust really don't understand dreadlocks or know their history, so they have preconceived notions about them and refuse to let go. :/

Help! Save My Dreads

Well because some well-meaning someone on here recommended it to me since it's non-stripping, or so I was told. :/

I ran out of olive oil a few weeks ago so sunflower oil to the rescue. ^_^ thanks.

Need to undo a particular lock :(

Help! Save My Dreads

Heyyyy yalllll :D Haven't been here in a while, been super busy. As always -.-

I has a problem. I have a dreadlock that I "made" by TNR and I need to undo it. It is funky and I don't like it. It's not natural and on top of that it is catching stuff at the top (not sure what, roots of my hair?) and it looks really bad. Sooo I want to take it out and let it start over. The rest of my hair is doing fairly well, finally starting to separate a lot more and catch up. I included a photo of what it looks like as of a month or so ago. I have been natural dreading for over a year, I won't give up now. lol. But I feel like this needs to be done... I *finally* found the Neutrogena anti-residue shampoo and have used that (needed it anyway) and a shit ton of detangler spray... I cannot seem to find my conditioner anywhere. I took Sam N's advice and super-saturated my hair with water but it's like there's a ball of knots in the middle and it's really frustrating? Any tips? I really need them. Thanks <3 ^_^

Whats with the negativity?

Introduce Yourself

Honey I've been told so many things about my hair, like many others who have responded. It won't dread. It's too soft. It's not for white people, blacks started it. Uhm, it looks like serious bedhead. I'll hate it after a while. Sooo many things. My sister-in-law hates my dreading hair because she says she loves the way it looked before... Eh. Best thing to do is keep your chin up, even when the road seems tough, prove everyone wrong and LOVE your dreads and yourself regardless of what others say. For a while I will be the pot calling the kettle black, but this is what I have learned... haven't had to guts to put it into practice yet though. :P Best wishes to you.

My mom has been against my locks since day 1. When my wedding was coming up, she finally caved about me having them. But... She wanted me to comb them out so she could pay for me to go to a salon and have them "done" nicely.

My aunt doesn't talk about them much, but one day went on and on about how they will make me go bald.

My grandfather, who is from the old country, constantly tells me to cut them and that I am too old to have funny hair.

We all have people in out lives who don't approve of the things we do. Luckily this is someone you don't see regularly.

Can't tell whether there's a problem or not.

Dread Maintenance

It's going to fall out. From reading other people's experiences and havingjust a tad of my own [mine are barely starting to dread after 10 mos lol] your "dreads" will fall apart but they're tangled now so don't mess with them too much, and have patience, they will come along. Best wishes.

Beads?

Dread Accessories

K I think I can handle that. Thanks. :) One more question, I'm full of them. LOL Most of my hair is still undreaded/untangled. If I put beads in undreaded hair or wrap it with hemp will that hinder the process or help it...?
