I'm Traddy and these are my dreads...!

Introduce Yourself

Heh heh, thanks for the compliments tye-dyed-soul, but i think either not stimulating my scalp for so long or my family bald gene is finally catching up with me. I only see it getting thinner on the top now that I observe it more closely. We shall take some time and see. God Bless...

Dude your dreads are sick! I wouldn't cut them unless you don't love them anymore. Also you have some pretty killer eyes as well.

Ha ha, thanks for the positivity and the suggestions Adam -but if I'm going bald, I'm gonna rock that bald spot baby!

I'd say it is the genes coming through then, since your whole family have thinning hair. At least you can tie it back and hide the scalp if you want to.

Ha ha! Oh shit SE, thanks so much for the effort and advice. (Thanks to everyone!) I'll definitely get right on these things. I guess this leads me to another topic that has been on my mind and that has been, well actually... cutting my hair. Perhaps I should make another post about this to air my thoughts on the matter. Yes, I will do that...

stop tying them back massage thge scalp when wseperating pull the dreds away from eachother ui think you were pulling them out of the scalp

see the discussion on jay simmons issue and panterras recomendations for oils to stimulate bloodflow

leave em down for the next 4 months and massage the scalp often then post a update

they look great but that scalpiness is a concern ..u might not be able to avoid it if its geneticsa only but might as well try to recover i think u can

Really appreciate the positivity Joey. Thanks!

Dude your look is awesome and inspiring! It's possible that the scalpiness is from something you did, or could just be genetics. If its just genetics then keeping dreads will keep you hair looking good longer. Just think if you cut your hair short everyone would probably notice the bald spot, but now everyone sees your awesome dreads first!

Hmm... Now that I think of it, I really do tie them back ALL the time. how could that cause this problem? Also, I'm middle eastern and ALL of the men in my family thin out at some point -I mean ALL of them. It was a concern of mine when I started dreading, but I figured "What the hell, i'll just see what happens..." The scalpy/ separating/ thinning parts are unnerving though...

(Also, sorry if I'm posting th same thing twice -I'm still figuring out the system :0 )

When I separated i would do it very gingerly. I would grab the connecting hairs and pull them out from the dread -kind of pull them out from the bottom of the dread that they weren't supposed to be in. I thought that this would be a better idea rather than just ripping them, but perhaps i was wrong... Other than that I didn't even touch the roots, but I guess that is kind of a root thing? maybe? I don't relly feel like I went all the way down to the root, but i did go to the source of the connection so to get a clean separation...
