More important than drinking lots of fluids, you need to exersize like craaazy. That will be the determining factor

tam hats and sleeping

Introduce Yourself

I usually sleep in one (very loose) and the back of my head has shown lots of progress. That could also be because I sleep on my back.. I dunno, personal preference I guess. Don't bother yourself with it, but if it comes natural as it does for me, go for it. Definitely wont hinder anything :]

root size - separating

Dread Maintenance

Glad you handled it without too much pain. Yeah I always hear ripping when I separate. Sounds like it would be bad, but its normal

Dread Maintenance

I'm in the same boat as you. I've got a 3 incher in the back of my head. I never brushed my hair before dreading anyway, so it's been growing about 6 months. I can't bring myself to toy with it, seeing as its my first/favorite/largest loc. I'm sure ill deal with the headache (literally) of it in months to come. Good luck, let me know how operation desperation goes :p
