Proud of you giving up the "hooking" so to speak. Also, how does one shove a crochet hook into a dread? I have many sizes for actual crocheting and they're all way too big to put through a dread in theory. I'm just curious cause it sounds like it would take some elbow grease.

Welcome. But unfortunately, crocheting is the second most damaging thing that can be done to locks, after felting. Against popular myth, there is no "safe" way to crochet. With every pass of the hook, it rips hundreds of hairs into smaller and smaller pieces. This weakens your locks, and causes them to take a minimum of 6 months to repair. if you crochet multiple times, they will never repair. And eventually become weak enough to actually snap off under their own weight.

If you only crocheted once, to start, it's not the end of the world. But if you want healthy locks for years, throw out the hook. It was never designed to be used in hair
