Excalibur

So a month and a half into natural dreading my hair and my vanity is tested. I have had long hair for quite sometime now. I am used to many compliments and admires of my well brushed and highly maintained hair. It has become a great ego booster for me for many years now. I didn't realize how vain I was till I started dreading.

I have noticed for the past couple weeks when I pass someone on the streets or standing in line at the grocery store. I receive some of the most unique looks. Its funny that the same society that found me so intriguing before. Now find me in contempt. Simpily just because of a hairstyle change. (SO FUNNY!!!) I have to admit my first reaction was a feeling of embarrassment and shame. Then I would greet them in the most gracious way to try and compensate for my appearance.

After sometime of reflection of this new phenomenon. I realized that the truth is...  I should  have been geeting my fellow brothers and sisters in life with this respect all the time. Now when I pass someone on the streets and they look at me like I'm from another plane . I hold my head up high and I greet them with love as I always have.(oddly enough)

So I guess my point to this post is this...altough one may think dreadlocks is just a hairstyle. Im process tell you though I have just started dreading. It is a journey to self enlightenment and true values both within oneself and around us. I myself have taken on this process for these reasons. I just never realized how much I would tested. I now know that just within the short time on this path I have much to gain from this and I feel assured that I will be a better person to all of you and myself.

P.S. I love my hair as is!!!
