Welcome. What shampoo do you use? If it's not a non residue one, it'll cause buildup and can lead to mold and mildew later on. Normal shampoos leave tons of residue behind

You sound like a person who was meant for dreads, welcome Lauren. Your twist & rip sections WILL loosen & must loosen in order to go on their wacky journey of shrinking, looping etc. (never re-twist or tighten) Just sit back and enjoy the fun ride. Peace
