Didn't do a damn thing except wash them, try not to dip them in all cups within a few foot range, hope, at the sound of the ripping, that I free my hair from the grip of yet another puppy's jaws, a door, a window, refrigerator, cupboard.....etc. What an amazing journey it truly has been.
Some thoughts come flooding forward. Silly things like, acting like I may melt in the rain for the thought of getting my hair wet and being cold for the rest of the day, or playing in the rain anyway and then spending hours in front of the wood stove ensuring they dry completely. A smile crosses my face thinking of some of the cruel, naive, stupid, hurtful, sweet, encouraging, thoughtful things that people come up with about my hair. Or the once a month when the thought "when was the last time I washed my hair?" crosses my mind and I don't have the answer...and probably don't wash it for another week or two.
All things said and done, though I didn't do anything for them, I can't even tell you how much maintenance they do on me; constantly keeping me genuine and down to earth. My dreadlock journey has been one of intense understanding and independence. I am forever grateful for this continual growth and experience.
