I would not tie the bases I would separate weekly, You Don't have to separate all daily. I would not let them go months or you are definitely Congo. But Daily is probably not necessary

I had really good luck with the thread wrap I put in my roots. Very similar to how Heather did hers! I put it in kinda loose so the hair at the roots could still move around but it helped keep that dread seperate from the others. I was CONSTANTLY having to seperate that one and it prob would've congo'd if I didn't put that wrap in. To each their own but it def worked for me and didnt do any damage.

... And Heather, your locks are beautiful! I know you've had a long hard process but I think it has inspired many of us and has made you stronger too! Keep it up sista!
