My take on dreadlocksite and SE: in response to SE's enthusiastic praise for natural dreads via a reply

Truer words have never been spoken, SE. I came upon this site after googling "dreadlocks salons in Philadelphia". Before coming to this site, I thought dreads were made, not grown. For instance, I used a dreadheadhq kit in high school: my mom helped section and backcomb my hair. We forced these "dreads" to stay with wax. In hindsight, these were a poor excuse for dreadlocks.

Soaring eagle has really done something special by making this site. It was refreshing to hear that no matter what hair type a person has, they can grow dreadlocks. This is backed up by the inspiring pictures that people post as they progress along their natural dread journeys. I say thank you to these people! Every one of these persons who posts a picture of their neglect method dreadlocks also has the most jaw-dropping, beautiful dreadlocks. The only pictures of dreads that I don't find so pleasing on here are the forced ones. I can usually tell the difference now by just looking at their picture. Those with natural dreads exude uniqueness, naturalism, and spirituality. Those without, well

Just out of curiosity, and after being armed with the knowledge that I had gotten from dreadlockssite, I went back to dreadheadhq.com to see what they were all about now. They still hype manufactured, waxy, and over night dreads. I took a look at what these overnight dreads look like, and they are as awkward as they are relatively hideous. Each dread looks like the other, as such each "kit fashioned dread head" looks like the next "kit fashioned dread head. There is no individuality! It's conformity in a kit/can. These "dreads" make it appear as if you have a mop on your head, as opposed to what you instinctively want on your head: beautifully and naturally grown dreadlocks. These "dreads" are a shell of dreadlocks.

As a result, it seems these sites that advertise the needing of expensive tools, kits, and methods to get dreadlocks are mostly a gimmick to take your hard earned dollars. You don't see links to dreadlockssite.com on those dread kit sites. You know why? If people came to this site, the kit sites wouldn't make a dollar. One visit to this website, and people would be thankful among refreshingly awed by SE's insightful, unbiased, and informative facts that expose the truth and history behind dreadlocks. Its also nice that he doesnt pressure you into buying dread necessities. His philosophy is quite the opposite actually: less is more.

For this insight I thank SE, for I might have never found out about the neglect method. I might have manufactured my own "dreads" via force, a kit, and/or a salon! Grateful is an understated word when talking about how I feel as a result of hearing the dreadlocks truth. It's like "Hey, this is what I've been looking for all along! This is the way to strong and healthy dreadlocks for life!" There is nothing more natural and aesthetically pleasing than naturally grown dreads. These are dreadlocks! In my opinion these are perfect dreads, not the painfully forced, dull, and mop-like "dreads" that leave your hair looking relatively unhealthy, hideous, and unnatural looking while also leaving you looking like you just washed your hair in a tub of wax

But can you blame most who use these unhealthy dreading methods? They are mostly victims due to their lack of having access to factual information about how to start healthy dreadlocks. Having a lot of misinformation on the net doesn't help either. I think people just need to hear the truth. I want to help SE get the word out and expose the truths and myths of manufactured dreads and dreadlocks in general. I am on day four of the neglect method, and I love every minute of it. My hair is actually cleaner than it was before I abandoned my comb! ;) Hopefully I can return the favor to those who inspired me by posting pictures of their journey updates. I will try to post picture updates of my journey as often as I can. I send my love to all, Nathan

p.s here is a link to dreadlockhq's before and after picture page. http://www.dreadheadhq.com/dreadpics/viewer.php Put these picture IDs in the search box there to see what I mean by awkward, forced "dreads". 0559_002; 0288_002; 0014_001; 0015_001; 0025_001; 0029_002; 0035_001; 0043_001. You don't need these ID's though. Just scroll through the pictures and you'll see what I mean. No offense to the person wearing these dreads!

well i started off really touched by all you said

then i made the mistake of looking at those picture..i really dont like laughing at victims..but some of them made me laugh so hard i startled my cat..

thing is those arent even close to the weirdest ones there those are perfectly average for that site

ok so you want to help..well last year more ppl found us then them cause we were doing real well in search engines (googles really all that matters) but then google changed things and our trafic dropped severely..

the next 3 months im literaly putting every cent i got into getting us back on top..and i mean literaly my accounts overdrawn right now

if you were prepared to pay a salon they'd charge a min of 50 more likely 500-800 (if the hairs not real short)

if you want to help prevent others from wasting that and being ripped off by 70 dollar kits and 500 dollar salons then donating any % ..between 1% and 100% of what you were prepared to pay and were saved..

it will help get us back on top

u do have the best seo firm in the world working on the site but cause im on a low budget couldnt afford to spend as much on it as we really should ..

but still should help enough over the next few months to repair our ranking at least

really loved all you had to say..this made my day

Wow, this post is so inspiring! I'd like to take this moment to thank SE also, for saving my dreads. If not for this site, I would have also fallen victim to the "dread-kits" people on youtube and google swear by. I symbolize my dread journey with letting go, and if not for learning to let go both in and out of context over the past year, I would have probably been lost.

Love you, SE! <3

Dude, this is an awesome post. This site has blessed my young waxy dreads with clean information. I look forward to washing my hair with baking soda and vinegar, whereas using dreadheadhq's soap I looked at it as a chore. I will probably throw all my dreadheadhq supplies away. Seems like the best option. Thank you SE, for this website of true, collective information.

This is exactly how I started, staring at those pictures. I even downloaded the one I wanted to model my hair after! Ordered the kit, then found this site. Actually found this site first but by-passed because SE's pictured scared me a little. Looked like a fanatic! How wrong I was!!!I kept coming back to this site until I really realized in my heart, this was the right way. Sent back the kit and started loving my true journey. I can never repay all I have learned here. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you do.

I guess fanatic would be a poor choice of words. Zealot comes to mind. Your zeal to help people is undeniable. When I opened my eyes to DHHQ you can see the deception. I found that picture I had downloaded and saw how sad it really looked. When I held it up to my face and then looked at the messy mostly freeform babies on my head, no words can describe my joy and relief. Love you for touching a part of me I didn't know was there.

oh no not that haha rather just be a friend

when i started this site 1 of my biggest concerns was becoming like jonny clean the face of the site i wanted it to be our siye not mine

in fact there was (still is i thoink) a communal site management forum cause i wanted everyone to work together..but every post in the communal management section got ugnored so i used general yalk instead

but we are all the heros of dreadlockssite..
