Non-chemical salon dreads

I did my dreads by myself, so naturally they have very un-uniform sections (grab n go) and they are very messy and aren't a lot of them. I love them dearly, though, and they are knotting up well at just over two weeks old, but my mother hates my faded pink hair -says it washes me out, so she wanted me to dye my hair and get the dreads redone at a salon. I thought about it, for a moment, only because I have heard uniform auctioning is much easier down the line, but changed my mind when I saw the pricing listed for start up locs! (non-chemical methods) and WOW! 75-95$ an hour for 5-6 hours!! That is so outrageous to me, when it takes about the same time as a cut and color which would only cost about 75-95 for the whole session!! Why would that be?? I'm no longer interested in redoing mine (not that I was too enthused in the first place, but my mom pretty much kept on my ass for an hour and a half saying I looked pasty and crappy in the politest way she could manage lol) I feel guilty for even thinking about it - I love my fatty uneven baby dreads. But why on earth would it cost so much to get them done in the salon??

people have spent over 25 grand at salons for dreads only to go bald in the end

they charge absolutely outrageous prices and do severe harm

if instead of grab and go you just let it go to dread itself youd probly have 48 or so instead of 13

look through the salon recovery section of the site and see just why you just dodged a bullet

I am too nervous for the neglect method, I think, but after a lot of struggle, I took mine out and am going to simply have them sectioned by my cousin who is a hairstylist, and then let the sections do as they will. Maybe a little backcombing to speed up the process, but not sure yet. I spent a few days enviously scrolling through dreadlock pictures and feeling more and more uncomfortable with my choice to do such big wad sections. :(

And I have heard of the nasty consequences of salon retwisting, but I will check it out to reaffirm and show my mother so she understands

yea but that's only 1 of many things salons do that's horific

but why would you be nervouse about the natural method?

heres typically what  you get from dread experiences

backcombed or 'made dreads"

day 1 omg i got dreads

day 2 oh damn they are flat and messu]y omg i screwed them up what should i do

day 5 omg theres so much frizz they are getting loose i need someone to fix them right away

day 10 omg the roots and tips are so loose they aren't dreading

day 20 they are even looser and messier 1/2 fell out completely

month 3 they are so loopy and crazy what did i do wrong

manth 5 they shrank omg whats wrong

etc etc ots a constant state of panic worried what you did wrong when its doing just what it has to

natural dreading

day 1 whew it felt good to not comb today

day 2 not a lot happening yet but i feel good

day  5 people are complimenting my hair more and i haven't done a thing to it but it is starting to section itself

day 10 i found my 1st dread this is so exciting

day 20 i have a bunch more dreads but a lot of loose hair too but i don't care

month 3 omg i love how loopy they are this is so exciting

month 5 wow they are shrinking and tightening every day

its a constant state of amazement and excitement watching them go through the natural changes from hair to dreads

look around the site at how many started with every method you can imagine only to restart..sometimes after years just to do it naturally

i always give this advice

you can let the natural process start and if your not happy tnr at any time (way less damage then backcombing)

but if you jump into backcomb or tnr then wish you went natural your likely to just want to start over again
