Hi Marissa, I can't answer your question for you as I don't dye mine, but just letting you know there is a group on her for members who dye their dreads. That would be a good one for you to join...Peace

The sections you have made are not really dreads at all, they were formed by hand. Those backcombed sections are the blueprints to your future mature dreads. They will loosen, and must loosen up in order to go on their journey of looping and shrinking, becoming the width of where the section meets the scalp. You do not want to tighten them at all, don't use a hook any longer, they must go on that journey. It can take a year or more for them to become mature dreads, and once they are they will be strong, thick, tidy and beautiful. All you need to do is wash and separate any sections that are trying to join together. That's it! Easy huh...
If you do dye your dreads, which I don't recommend because it dries them out and dye can be stuck inside, at least try to use a healthier brand that is sold in health store and health sections in some grocery stores. If you want your dreads to last for a lifetime, don't dye them. if you want them only for a short time, then have fun.
Peace

Thank you for all the good info! If I shouldn't crochet, how do I tighten them when they get a little loose?
I understand about bleaching, but I'd rather not leave them the colour they are. They're almost the colour of copper rust. They're disgusting looking.

dont tighten them when they get loose they have to get loose to dread u dont have dreads u have crochetted hair (or backcomnbed if u didnt crochet) u have to leacve em alone let them get loose so they can dread
dreading happens by neglect only by leaving them alone tpo do what they do..naturally
