Help me out with your opinion!!

Hey everyone I'm Koko,I'm new to this site as well as dreading! I never brush my hair, and stopped using shampoo and conditioner about a month ago. I officially started my journey yesterday by twisting and ripping/backcombing my curls just a tiny bit (without any pain or ripping my hair out) so they stay in chunks and it's easier to pull apart. I let my hair decide how it wanted to be sectioned so it's comfortable I just grabbed curl by curl and this is where I'm at now.

They are all pretty small, 1/8inch-1/2inch in diameter on my scalp for most of them with a good handful of inch diameter chunks, but I figured the little ones if they want to will combo with other little ones I also left some hair alone assuming it will get picked up by other dreads over time. If not, whatever.

I would love some opinions on how to continue my process so that I get the result I'm after in a few years. I want them to hang straighter, be round for the most part, and I want to get confirmation that the little dreads will combo after a while. I was wondering if I should twist and rip them tighter to give them more shape and make sure they form falling straight like I want them to, or if I should just let it go as it is right now and let it happen over time. I was also thinking I could let them be and just roll them and maybe that will make them form straighter (since my hair is naturally curly) I don't care if my hair looks awful or if it takes years I'm looking forward to the journey (I call it the semi-natural way) and want to nurse my babies to growing beautiful and strong!

it will all work out in time, you dont really need to do anything except keep them clean, and seperate when nesicary the lil ones will congo, all of them will round out eventually, the loose hairs will make baby dreads, all in all your fine and on a good track as far as i can tell

o need to roll at all in fact you shouldnt just leave em be they will work it all out on their own

That's great! Thank you both! I was hoping I'd get the advice to not do anything at all, since I am pretty lazy when it comes to maintenance, haha. It's crazy, most people out there tend to think that it takes a lot of pain to get dreadlocks and a lot of timeto take care of them, that just doesn't make sense!! Hearing all of that made me change my mind about letting my hair dread years ago, but now that I know the truth is what I assumed (just let it be ;]) I wish I had done it sooner

Gotcha! I use baking soda and wash my hair about every 3/4 days. I'm wondering if over time that will dry out my scalp?

Baking soda alone will dry your scalp out. Follow it with an apple cider vinegar rinse (2 caps to 4-5 cups water) and you should be good!

Okay, I'll try the vinegar first since it's cheap. I hope it doesn't smell vinegar-y haha I was enjoying my hair smelling like nothing from washing it with baking soda.

Wow they have some great smelling shampoos on that website, Britany! I might have to get myself one sooner than later :] I wonder what ingredients in a shampoo help hair lock up and how...

I presume you have been using normal shampoo and conditioner up to this point? I would buy a clarifying shampoo to use once or twice, just to get rid of the residues in your hair. You can buy travel bottles, so it wont be expensive.

The bs/acv is always a good route to take -- and has anyone told you about how sea salt sprays/soaks help your hair knot as well? I use sea salt spray in addition to bs/acv and my hair's knotting crazy-fast.
