What am I supposed to do with my dreads?

First off, I have really fine hair. I've had dreads 3 times. The first two times I was misinformed and was told to use wax and backcombing. The 3rd time (my current set) I crocheted my dreads which I am now regretting. I even did a bit of maintenance with crochet hooks. I lost my crochet hooks. (thank goodness) so I'm forced to do nothing. I did at one point use the pull-through method, but I took them all out. I also do root rubbing which now reading about it on this site makes me scared for my dreads!

What should I be doing with my dreads? Just the occasional separation? I'm worried that my roots won't lock up without the root rubbing. Will they?

And is there anything I can do for the loose hairs or should I just let them be as well?

I've had this set for a bit over a year and I plan on having them for a very long time.

Please help! :)

Your roots will never fully lock, due to the fact that they need to be strong enough to bear the weight of the dread. As far as the loose hairs, embrace them, as your dreads mature those loose ones will find a home. I would stop everything you're doing. Your hair has taken a beating. Just wash and separate and hopefully they'll fully recover. Good luck.

hmm for some reason the pu=ics are loading very slow

must nbe my router

but ofcourse the roots lock on theor own burt bnev er should be tight to the scalp if u force em to be tighter then they want to be your causing traction on the scalp wich causes traction alopecia and slow but sure balding

if roots didnt dread

id have 1 inch of dreads at the tip and 5 ..no more like 15 feet of straight hair at the roots

wash and seperate thats all you need to do

youve harmed em enoughh already now u just got to leave m alone to recover

watch this

http://www.dreadlockssite.com/video/retwisting-interlocking-tightening-dreads-locs-roots-dangers

thats from years of twisting but any forcing the roots to be too tight will lead to this

D: Have I done any damage yet? Or do you think I'm fine if I stop now?

u undid the interlocking (feding the dread thru the root) u stopped crochet and root rubbing

well..youll have some internal damage but not too bad to worry about as long as u stopped

as far as traction alopecia it takes a long time to get severe so even if you are in the earlu stages u will recover
