hello. i'm so thankful i found this site. This was my second attempt at dreads and I was on the borderline of giving up seeing as I was using pomade, regular backcombing etc etc. My dreads are almost a month old. I started off by having them backcombed by a friend of mine and had rubber bands at both the roots and the tips. I regularly applied pomade and recently started using a homemade (i found this online) accelerator that consists of lemon, water and 3 tbsp sea salt. Once I found this site I discontinued using pomade ( for the last few days) and decided to go the natural way. My question here is that I sweat heavily as well as having a very oily scalp. In my line of work I'm very physically active which causes me to sweat a lot. Should I wash more often then once a week since I have an oily scalp (as well as dandruff) and sweat a lot. Any help would be appreciated! thanks in advance

I'm washing with a vegan shampoo made by ion,but I'm going to use your recipe to wash my hair from now on. I had rubber bands in them but took them out. Should I take out the string I wrapped two of my dreads with (you can see them in the pictures). I'll stop using lemon, but was curious as to why?

lemons a curosive acid that penetrates into the inner layers of the hair shaft and can damage it panteerra can explain the actual procress i think it breaks down the inner layer chemicaly its especialy bad if u had color treatted it

but lemon bleaches haoi=ir when exposed to heat or sun also

thats because its afecting the inner layer beneath the cuticles (which are damaged and permenantly pried open from backcombing)

Hi! Panterra here! I heard my name...LOL SE is 100% correct! (He does that alot!). Please stop using the lemon, because in the long run it will cause you major unhappiness. Also, because your hair is dark, you would find your hair taking on a rusty, red hue (especially if you are outdoors alot). Because your hair is of an oily nature, I highly recommend the BS wash. Also, continue with the sea salt spray. After the BS wash, I would advise following with ACV, but...contrary to my usually instructions...I would advise half strength of your BS mixture. In other words...if you use 1/2 cup of BS to a bucket of water...please only use a 1/4 cup of ACV. Don't be mislead into thinking that because you are oily you can skip the ACV. If you do happen to find that the hair feels slimey or oilier after it is totally dry after your wash, then by all means further cut the ACV mixture (but do not skip it!). I have used Ion products numerous times, and I personally do not care for them, although some people do. Anyway, I am pretty confident that if you follow with sea salt sprays, the ACV mixture I outlined will be fine. Oh, and as for washing...in these earliy stages...I would recommend washing 3 times a week and then drop to 2 once you have significant progress (most likely at about 6 mos.). Hope this helped. :) Drop by my page anytime with any questions.
