Wool Roving

First hi and hello to all the members, i'm new around here. That being said, i was wondering if anybody had used the wool roving/felting method. Its pretty big in the UK and have read lots about it but have yet to meet a single person who actually has wool dreads. My heart says yes but my brain says hey if its so fabulous wheres everybody at??? Im sold on dreads my only hang up is the method and after-math. I generaly work in uptight, communist run, color/creativity/indivudualism hatinganimal hospitals, so there may be a chance i may have to remove them in 6-12 months to return to my career. That is why i was considering the felting method(as in felted wool N O T felting my hair itself). Its cheaper than fake hair, feels better, looks better, i can do it myself and i can do all kinds of pretty colors that last months.Im looking at multicolored, single-ended wool dreads for now.I can even leave them in if desired.Please please please PLEASE pretty please, if you have any info comment or contact. =] any information is better than no information.

oh no way thats like im noit sure there is a worse way to dread 1srt off felting turns a rope of hair into a felt..how easy is felt to pull apart with yoir fingers?

u shred every single hair into ity bitty peices so theyre lucky to support theyre own weight a monthor 2

then your mashing wool into your hair doesnt wool smell like..wett wool when wet?

absolutely 1 of the silliest things u can do its popular amontg raver kids who want wool dreads for a party and dont care if they destroy theyre hair and they only last a week

but if u want dreads..this is not the way to go

Hey not aware of the felting method, would that be braiding it in the way you do synthetic dreads?I'm new to this site but it seems very focused on natural dreads. You may find a goth site helpful as I know a couple people into gothy stuff that use synthetic dreads and may be more aware of the methods. I wasn't aware you could keep then in that long though.Lou x

felting u take a felting needle and stab stab stab turning every hair into a shredded mess that mashes together just by being torn up into tattered peices

ok when you felt wool you torn fairly strong wool into an extremely weak felt eith fiber being a milimeter or less long maybe 2..tiny peices.. a strong dread requires unbroken hairs in long peices the longer the stronger

Would you poke the roving through sections of the hair then? Guess that would get all tangled in be hard to get out in 6 months or so anyways. Wouldn't the roving kinda go weird after keeping it in that long? I had considered making dread falls years back otherwise I haven't got much clue about roving.Lou x

Hey, do you mean felting the wool into like "dreads" and braiding them into your hair?! Like synthetic dreads? I suggest youtubeing wool synthetic dreads, I'm sure you'll find something in there! In fact I think I have watched someone make one before and loop one of her dreads through the little hole at the top

1st off theres no way in hell i would felt my own hair, like i said in the post

2nd You basically take a piece of wool roving and dread it like you would a piece of your own hair(palm roll) and once its sets theres a loop at the end that you slip your own hair through then braid the piece in. Just like synthetic but a different material and you can do it at home rather than go to a salon. Youtube has plenty of videos showing the method and ive been to numerous UK sites and this is what a lot of them are doing.

and 3rd im only considering this method because i can not have dreads while working at a hospital so when i do go back, i can simply unbraid the wool dread and my own hair is intact, no damage done.

p.s. thanks Hannah thats actually one of the videos ive watched a few times but the people i have talked to said the bubble wrap is a dumb idea and to just do it with a towel.

yes..you can too have dreads while working at the hospitol we have about a dozen drs and nurses here already and i know a dozen more personaly

Ive never been to a single animal hospital where it was allowed. The last emergency vet I was at, I was told if i came to work with them i would be fired on the spot because they were "filthy looking". I could always just go all the way and do them the natural way and take my chances with who hires me. if they like it they do if they dont they dont, but i have children and the possibility of it holding me back from my career is what scares me.
