Hey, Im obviously new but i wanted to stop by and say i love this site. Its BRILLIANT! My dreads are only 10 days old and im still getting used to them. Ive wanted dreads since i saw a man walk past me when i was 6 and i thought i WILL have them! I finally got around to it and (due to lack of patience and a job that wudnt tolerate the natural route) i found someone to do them for me in my locality ....finally! I had read crocheting was bad for your hair but when she started i was committed. Now there are loose hairs EVERYWHERE and palm rolling seems to make it worse. i was ,and still am, slightly worried about that but i read back through forums here and i feel much better. Im going to go with the whole "dont do anything" advice (well i might try tidy the loose hairs a little for work but not much! ) and just watch my dreads grow. I like the kinks and bends they are getting as it feels as if they are reminding me of my curly hair (past) while changing and being exciting! Theyve given me such a confidence boost too! I cant wait to grow with them as they mature. Thanks so much for a ll the advice and help and keep up the brilliant site. Shanti, Gem. xxx

mostly as i had planned it ahead of time and i didnt want to back out as the girl who did it is lovely. Also because i had spent nearly 2 years looking for anyone who would dread my hair and who didnt promote using wax. She was the only person who said she hated wax and had stunning dreads, so i went with her.

u still sould and should have told her no crochet
hey Gemma, worry not about your dreads...we all come to them differently, and to be perfectly honest I have seen folks on here with BEAUTIFUL, long lasting dreads which were started with crochet hooking...I am 3.5 months into a "natural" ..ummm MESSY route. Each method has its pluses and minuses. And no one is spared the rebelious stage of dreads, enjoy the journey!...blessings!
I started mine w backcombing and wax, I was ignorant of the issues. Now I have removed as much wax as I could, and am just washing and separating. I, too, love the crazy bumps and loops and jigs that form!! I'm grateful for this site and all the great information and supportive people here!!
