Starting locks round 2

Hello all, I finally now know that I wana try dreads again, cuz last time it was just a mess since I had very little knowledge of what I was actually doing. My hairs just over 2.5" right now and I have really thick curly hair. However I am white, and I am curious as to what you all would think is the best method of locking up. Last time I used wax and backcombing and hated how nasty is was I just combed them out after about 2 or 3 weeks. I know this time around I wont use any wax or anything like that at all, all natural, I do have some important occasions coming up in the next 3-8 months though so I am kind of leaning away from the neglect method. Im considering twist and rip, since I know just about every other method has serious drawbacks as far as dread health goes and whatnot. Any info helps! Thanks!

tnr is indeed a good option altho neglect u would need lil more length so u wouldnt really have dreads at the point where u needed to look neat anyway so u could start after since u need more growth anyway

but tnr u should have more length as well

theres not much that will get it to dread belot 3-4 inches unless ya had afro hair (well some ppl gat lucky and neglect works short dry hair sea salt might help)

well u can try finger teasing sectuions and add beads if it holds together it will dread..simularly could so wraps on the ends and leave it go but will be slow pribly till it grows..but then again they surprise u sometimes

Awesome, thanks for all the info, I know I'm still waiting till my hair is at least another few inches longer, probably do all this around april/may or so since my hair grows about an inch a month

If I was to do the neglect method, generally what would be my washing regimen? I've read that it's pretty much personal, but as far as health goes what would be your recommendation? I've also read on here about natural dandruff solutions, (since I have it when I don't a dandruff shampoo), would that washing schedule change at all?

lolthis is very similar to the discussion i posted earlier...i'm also thinking about the T&R route, but am gonna see how neglect works out first...good luck! hope that both of our dreadlock journeys go well..=]

if your thinking about going pure neglect, i would suggest washing your hair 1-3 times a week as SE said, but try to keep your fingers from accidently pulling knots out, you gotta watch your hands when your watching t.v. you can start to un dread your hair pretty easily if your bored... but enjoy the journey...

Will do, I feel like that would be weird to used to but I think I can adjust, would wearing a wool hat or any hat for that matter slow down the process?
