HELP! Will a hair tie help the natural dreading process or not?

Waddup everyone! :>

I have normal, pretty straight hip-long hair. I want to start my dreading process - right now! I'm going the natural way of course.

So on to my question: I normally wear my hair using a small rubber hair tie. Will this help the dreading process? Or should I wear my hair open whenever possible? Is there a consensus on this?

What's your experience? :]

your hair should be free to move around (that's how it knots) as much as possible. but that doesn't mean you can never wear it up, just when you do put it up loosely & try using your dreads to tie them up or a wider banded tie. too tight ties too often could lead to weak spots & breakage.
