Welcome. Have you thought about how you wanted to start? Hopefully you haven't been sucked into the hype that is Knotty Boy or Dreadhead HQ. Both of those sites are a scam. They are too expensive, and they don't know squat about growing healthy locks.

The main thing you need to know is that wax prevents locks, and will even cause mold to grow in them if you leave it in. And that crochet hooks are sold in art stores, and not salons, for a reason. They aren't designed for hair.

Check out the dreaductaion page, like barrellady said. Then look through the timeline forums to see what your locks will look like in the first few weeks/months

Welcome to the community Dizzy and to the best site on the web for healthy dreadlocks. The dreaducation section will get you off to a great start and give you tips on how to grow dreadlocks. When you do start to dread, you can use a baking soda wash, apple cider vinegar rinse, that is the cheapest way to go for a teen. You have hard water, so you will have to do one of two things for the baking soda mixture:

  • boil the water first and let the residue settle on the bottom, pour the water out slowly, the 5 cups needed
  • or you can purchase a large jug of water to use, I use a cooler size jug

You can find the recipie on my page with other tips on it, most of them apply to natural dreading also: (Dead URL) http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/just-starting-out-what-to-expect/a>

As for your hair color, if you have $10, buy Biotin 6000mcg strength for the faster hair growth, they will last you a long time, plenty of pills come in a bottle. If you can't find the strength, just add up pills to equal it. Local drug store, vitamin section. Some one at a drug store should be able to help you with a matching hair color, or if there is a beauty supply store near you maybe???

If you have any questions before you start, just ask. What ever method you choose, let your hair separate naturally first, that takes about 2 weeks or so for it to happen

peace

Hey, I follow your youtube videos. Great progress at over a year.

Your locks are an inspiration to go neglect and freeform, keep it up!

Well you take the smallest one you cam find and you go in and out, but not trough a dread, just a slightly or not at all backcombed patch of hair, its not that hard...
