Welcome. Definitely check out the dreaducation page first. Then take a look through the timeline forums. Locks need time. The only way to get locks right away is to irrevocably destroy your hair so that even those insta-locks won't last 5 years.

If you want to use a starter method, TnR is the most healthy. Back combing is fine, but it does do aconsiderableamount of damage

The best possible method is freeform/natural. Your hair will dread all on its own if given the time and a little love :] no need to waste money and hrs of painful poking by attempting to force dreads on your hair. You'd be amazed what patience, washing with dread soap and seperating when locs try to combine can do! Welcome sister :]Don't hesitate to ask questions!

Welcome. But I have to warn you that crocheting is the most damaging thing that can be done to locks, after felting. It is even worse than wax. Wax can be scrubbed out with detergent and time. Crocheting does nothing but rips your hairs into smaller and smaller pieces, which weakens your locks, and can actually make them snap off in places, sometimes at the root (Leaving a bald spot). Also, extensions won't hold until your locks are fully mature. When you wash your hair and they loosen up, the extensions will come out.

As for palm rolling, it's not worth it. It only does 1 of 2 things. Either you don't do it often. In which case it doesn't create any lasting knots. Or you do it enough to see progress. if the latter, then it is severely destroying your roots. I did it for 2 weeks in the very beginning, and 6 years later I am still trying to fix the damage. There is a video on my page showing how much it hurts them
