Hey, I figured it would be better to take this convo to each other directly rather than jacking someones thread.
Anyhoo, my symptoms... I guess I always had symptoms that were related to this but in January 2008 I was pretty much hit hard.
This was my first month going back to school and I was incredibly sick the whole month. Flow visited me 3 weeks out of the month which, was highly unusual. I gained 20 lbs, just in that month. I also had trouble staying awake past 7ish... I would get sluggish and, sometimes in mid conversation, I would just fall right to sleep.
At first I thought it might have been exposure to something from going back to college and being around so many people. I ended up going to the Dr and getting a full blood panel to find out it was my thyroid. My cholesterol was pretty high too but my Dr was accurate that once on medication for my thyroid the cholesterol would start to level out. I needed a series of blood tests to, 1) show that it was Hashimoto's and 2) keep track of my thyroid levels. At first it was every 6 weeks for blood tests then they thinned out to annually.
Immediately after starting the levothyroxine my symptoms started to fade out. I was able to stay up later and finish my homework, etc. My weight started to go back down.
Recently, my cholesterol has spiked and I was put temporarily on cholesterol meds to get it under control. I need to talk to my new Dr about the possibility of my thyroid being the cause and possibly changing my dosage on my synthroid. Another thing I started to notice was feelings of being lost, confused and a slight lack of retention. I didn't consider it before but now think it may be related to Hashimoto's since those are listed as effects.
