When you first start out, it doesn't take long to dry, so yeah you can wash your hair everytime you shower, but eventually you'll have to stop washing it so often, so you might as well get into the habit and routine of washing your hair less frequently than you're used to (also helps your scalp get used to it). And people tend to wash their dreads two or three times a week, so I'd say around that is fine.
