Welcome. I guess I don't have to go into the damages and harm that crocheting does. I'll only add that if you go into an art store for supplies, remember that those supplies are only designed for that specific type of art project. You hair is not as strong as the yarn/thread that crochet hooks are made for. So every stroke of the hook tears your hair into pieces
Benvenuto to the community Alec. You found the best site on the web for healthy happy dreadlocks. If you want your dreads for life, please do yourself a favour and never ever use a crochet hook on them again. Each use makes hundreds of broken hairs inside each lock, causing the strength of the lock to be lost. In a few years they WILL start breaking off one by one. If you want them for just a few years, then do what you gotta do, but please know that they will not last.
Welcome to the community Leona, Start off by reading the dreaducation section at the top of the site to learn all about methods and maintenance. Your long hair will shrink as they mature, so you can expect it to get shoulder length near the 1 year mark, this will happen with all methods of dreading..Any questions after you read that, please feel free to ask us. I made a post you can read also: . (Dead URL) http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/just-starting-out-what-to-expect/a> Enjoy your future journey...Peace
